Canteen will continue from Week 2 of next term.

A huge thank you to our Parents & Wantoks community for coming together and making our Term 1 Bake Sale such a success! It was wonderful to see you all communicating with each other, baking together and hopefully making new connections - without your help days like this would not be possible.

We hope you enjoy the baked goods you’ve purchased. Have a wonderful and safe Easter break!

Thank you,

Rebecca Daimol-Matson

2023 LIS WHOLE SCHOOL MUSICAL PRODUCTION!

This year, at the end of term 2, LIS will be staging a whole school dance and drama musical production titled – ‘Travel into Space on Apollo23’. This production will involve all classes, Prep to Year 10, as well as the LIS/STM staff. It is a musical drama about the Solar System that not only involves dance and drama but planning and preparation as well.  Apart from it being fun and entertaining, being part of a production is an activity that boosts students’ confidence. This will be a great experience for our LIS students.

Thanks to Ms Patricia Yip for being our production director.

Student Portfolios and Parent/Teacher Interviews

Thank you to parents who attended this week's primary parent / teacher interviews. It was pleasing to see the very high level of attendance at these important discussions. If your child has not returned their portfolio, we ask that these be returned early next term.

Long Run and Ball Games

Thanks to Mrs Laien for organising the Long Run and Ball Games Carnival. There was great participation and enthusiasm from the students and we thank the parents who attended and cheered them on. At the end of next term, there will be an Athletics Carnival.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons will recommence next term in week 2 on a Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to Ms Dovaston and Ms Savitas for running these lessons after Hannah's departure. If any parents would like to volunteer to assist with the swimming program, please see Mr Neville.

High School Sewing Program

We are also looking for volunteers to assist with our high school sewing classes. This would involve helping over a two-hour period up at our STM Campus, once a week. Please contact Mr Collins or Mr Neville for any further information.

Holidays

We encourage all students to maintain reading over the holiday break. A reminder that primary students can access the online programs Reading Eggs and Mathletics.

Wishing all families a safe and happy holiday break.

Kind regards,

Ms Cathy Langusch

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

This week, we farewell our Work Ready Program trainees as they completed their program on Thursday 30 March. We wish them all the very best with their future as they start to apply for permanent positions with both Newcrest Mining Limited and business partners and progress onto fulltime employment.

Next week, we welcome Divine Word University lecturers who will present the first round of face-to-face lectures for our new cohort of teachers upgrading their qualifications. We look forward to meeting our new group and working with them over the next two years as they complete their Bachelor of Primary Education (In-service).

Our FODE students will continue their studies over the Easter break; they continue to progress well.

Regards,

Mr Kevin Collins
