Welcome to Week 5. Today, the students should bring home a note containing information about the upcoming P&C school disco planned for Thursday 11th March. Like all extra-curricular activities, parents and carers have the right to choose whether your child participates or not. Traditionally, the discos are great fun and enjoyed by the students that attend. Permission notes and money needs to be returned by 10am on Monday 8th March.
The Kiss and Drop zone in Armstrong Street continues to be a convenient and relatively safe way for parents to pick children up from school after 3pm. Although the street is narrow and the junction with Croudace Street can slow the movement of cars down from time to time, generally speaking it works well. Over the past two weeks however, the school staff have observed a couple of things that cause us concern. Some parents have been seen moving off from Kiss and Drop with children who have not yet fastened their seat belts. This may be because drivers are not wanting to hold up the cars behind them in the queue. From our perspective, we would encourage drivers to wait a few extra seconds to ensure that children are safely secured in their seats before pulling away. The other concern relates to situations where children have been encouraged by parents to get into the car on the road side rather than the kerb side, possibly due to having a childseat secured on the kerb side in their car. Given how narrow the road is, this is quite dangerous. Can we ask all parents to ensure that your children always get into the car from the kerb side. We would rather that pick-up take a few extra seconds as children maneouvre into their car then see a child struck or hurt by other traffic using Armstrong Street. Also, to all Kiss and Drop users please continue to show patience and courtesy to others in the queue. If we work together, Kiss and Drop can continue to be a safe and convenient way to pick children up from school.
Finally, the zone swimming carnival is scheduled to take place tomorrow at Lambton Pool. I’d like to wish the 30 students representing our school all the very best as they compete. We are really proud of all of them regardless of whatever individual milestones that they achieve. Good luck team!
Have a great week
