St Pat's News

June 17, 2020

At St Patrick’s Parish Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

Dear Parents, Parishioners, Carers, Staff & Students,

Congratulations

Our warmest congratulations to the Brian family, Simone, Adam and Matilda (Foundation), Rosie and Percy on the arrival of Trixie last week.

Cancellation of Pupil-free Days

I remind you that on our calendar we had two pupil-free days scheduled for Thursday 6th and Friday 7th August. These days were to be staff development days. In light of the pandemic and uncertainty surrounding gatherings and travel, it has been decided to cancel these dates. We are looking to reschedule with a one day staff development activity in Term 4, possibly in November. You will be notified of this date early next term.

Camps and Excursions

Another consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic is the necessary cancellation of offsite activities such as camps and excursions. Our Yr 5/6 camp in Melbourne, scheduled for Week 2 of next term, has been cancelled. Staff are considering an alternative activity for these students in Term 4. Our Yr 3/4 overnight stay at Southcombe Lodge is booked for Thursday 3rd September. Under the current restrictions this activity would not go ahead but the situation may change from the start of next term. We will inform you with a definite decision next term.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 student reports will be available to parents and carers from 4.00pm on Friday 19th June. Again, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and our switch to remote learning, our report format is quite different to what it would normally be. Please see the letter from Audrey Brown, Director of Catholic Education, attached to this newsletter for an explanation behind this change. Also, we will be unable to conduct Learning Conversations in the usual format. If parents wish to discuss their child’s report, or any aspect of their child’s learning for Semester 1, you are asked to contact the relevant teacher via Seesaw to arrange a time early next term for a conversation either over the phone or via video conference.

End of Term

Next Friday, 26th June, is the last day of term and therefore school ends at 2.20pm. We will begin our staggered dismissal at 2.00pm. Thank you again for your efforts in making this process run smoothly.

Kind regards,

Peter Sanderson

Principal

Wellbeing News - Antonia Balmer

SWPBS News

As our classes return to their pre-covid routine it has been an opportune time to review our School Wide Positive Behaviour Strategies with our students. All classes have revisited the behaviour matrix and highlighted what our expected behaviours are inside and outside of our school. It has been wonderful to see and hear some of our Foundation and One children explaining to Mr Sanderson just how they managed to acquire 50 dojo points and using the language of our Behaviour Matrix.

One of the focus areas on our Behaviour Matrix is how we enter and exit our school. All our students are to be congratulated on how they exit our school. While I am on exit duty I have noted that all children are moving slowly and calmly, they are walking and using the crossing very safely.

Our staff have been working hard to identify minor and major behaviours.  Our next step is to organise these identified behaviours into a flow chart so that all children and staff are aware of the steps taken to address minor and major behaviours  in our school.

Our SWPBS focus for the rest of the term will be speaking kindly to each other both  in our classrooms and outside in the playground.  Staff will be looking and listening for children who are using a kind voice tone with their peers.
