Along with all this, our expert teaching staff are preparing a term packed full of excellent learning experiences for all students. Parent Overviews for Term 4 will be sent home today and a Term 4 Calendar link can be found below.

Year 10 National Exams

Next week our our second group of year 10 will sit for the PNG National Exams. These are very important exams that will determine the students' future place in year 11.  Our year 10 students have prepared well and we look forward to their results after the exam marking period. Thanks to Mrs Yip and to the high school and STM teachers who have worked tirelessly to have the students prepared.

Year 10 Camp and Work Experience

Following the year 10 National Exams, our year 10 class will head off on a Transition Camp to Kavieng for a couple of days. The camp is designed to prepare them for Work Experience  and includes a visit to OLSH International Kavieng for an awareness on year 11 subject selections. Following this, the students will participate in a Work Experience program coordinated by Mr Collins. This program gives the students a valuable taste of the workforce, prior to subject selection for year 11.

School Council Meeting

There will be a School Council Meeting on Thursday, 13th October, commencing at 6.00pm in the year 9/10 classroom. This meeting is for School Council members.

Please make an appointment to see the principal if you have any concerns or queries.

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

Welcome back to a new term. Over the school holiday period, we had our first cohort of Primary Education Bachelor Upgrade teachers complete their final semester of face-to-face lectures with DWU. A big thank you to Mr Pulip Lakao and Mr Peter Kelaki from DWU for delivering these lectures. A big congratulations to the 10 teachers from across Lihir who completed their final semester of lectures with a few assessments to be completed by November this year.

I’d like to wish all of these teachers, including our own Mrs Lorna Romaso–Daimol and Ms Anastasia Tukata, all the best with their final assessments and congratulate all of them on this huge achievement. We look forward to meeting our next intake of BEd Teachers who will commence next March.

Also, over the holidays we said goodbye to our latest Work Ready Program trainees. We thank them for their input into Independence Day and also for their efforts throughout the program. We wish these students all the very best as they now prepare to apply for permanent employment with both Newcrest and other stakeholders.

The STMS staff would like to wish the Year 10 students the very best next week for their National Exams. Our STMC staff continue to support our Year 8 students as they prepare for National Exams in Week 4.

Over the holidays, Mr David Wengip welcomed our Academic Support students from Lihir Secondary School to liaise with Mr Peter Kelaki from DWU about university and the programs offered by DWU.

Our FODE students and Elementary Teachers from across Lihir continue to work on their distance education with the support of our STMC Staff. Year 10 Exams for some of these students will take place late October.

Please note the Kisim Save Library is open for use by all Newcrest Employees and Townsite Residents. Please email SchoolToMineCampus@newcrest.com.au to book a time to come.

Regards,

Mr Kevin Collins
