Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

At Woolooware we are SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS

Our 2020 launch of PBL has had a very positive impact at Woolooware.  We have selected a new focus each fortnight and taught explicit lessons on what each focus looks like, sounds like and how it feels.  Students are being acknowledged for demonstrating the focus of the fortnight.  Last fortnight we focussed on being safe by staying in bounds.  Over the next fortnight we are talking about:

Being a learner by having a growth mindset.

Wellbeing Groups

We are now right back into our wellbeing program – a strategy that is part of our strategic plan.  This program involves all students and staff in the school, coming together in groups of about 15 each week for 20 minutes.  This term we are focussing on ‘keeping in control of our emotions’ and bouncing back when things don’t go as expected.

Parent Teacher Interviews

In week 9 (Commencing Monday 23 March) you will have the opportunity to meet with your child/ren’s teacher/s to discuss how they have settled into school and plans for their learning and wellbeing this year.  We will be using the online booking system for this again which will open next week.  More information and instructions for booking will be sent out via Skoolbag and email next week.

Visitors and Safety

In the interest of Work Health and Safety as well as child protection, we ask that any visitor to the school sign in at the front office.  This includes parents of students who come into the school after the morning bell or before 3.15pm for pick up.  There are a few very important reasons for this:

  1. We need to have an accurate record of everyone onsite in case of the need for evacuation.
  2. We like to minimise disruptions to learning and will help you convey a message or drop in a forgotten item at an appropriate time.
  3. Students can become confused and/or unsettled with unscheduled ‘visits’ during learning/play time.

We thank you for your support with this matter.

Zone Swimming

It was such a pleasure to be at the Zone Swimming Carnival with our team this week.  We had some excellent results, but for me the highlight was seeing the sportsmanship and attitude of Woolooware students.  This was even noticed and commented on by staff from other schools!  Well done Woolooware!

Student Safety

There has been a lot of concern in the media about the implications of the Novel Coronavirus.  Please be assured that the NSW Department of Education is working closely with the NSW Department of Health and have a detailed plan in place to support school communities.  Decisions regarding school closures and isolation of students are made centrally by DoE staff in the Health and Safety directorate in consultation with the Department of Health.

At a local level we are supporting our students by reminding them of correct hand-washing procedures and cough etiquette. If you child is unwell, please keep him her/at home.
