Elevate Education recently visited our school and spoke with our Year 11 and Year 12 students about effective study skills. Staff also participated in follow up sessions from Elevate Education to reinforce what the students learnt during the session.
All involved agreed it was a valuable presentation and most worthwhile.
Elevate Education also offer free advice for parents and carers on how to support students during study.

Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC)
PRC closes Tuesday 25th August.
Students are reminded to fill in books that they have read since September last year on their online reading log. With the requirement for remote learning PRC relaxed the rules to include 10 choice books, so it has never been easier to be acknowledged for reading for pleasure. The online reading log is very easy to fill in. Eleven students have already finished with several very close to finishing. Even if you are not a big reader it is worthwhile recording what you have read to compare again next year.
New Books
The Fiction Cove is being used to distribute and return Resource Centre laptops (to maintain social distancing and clean laptops after use) so the new books are (for now) located on the white shelves opposite the circulation desk. (Thank you to our Year 10 models pictured below). There are also new graphic novels for all ages.
Book Requests
Students are also welcome to request books at the Circulation desk as we are always interested to know what you want to be reading. Like with Book of the Month "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ugly Animals" which is a CBCA book of the year shortlisted book.
Oliver and Research help
If you need help with using our Library Management System Oliver or locating information, the Teacher-Librarian is happy to help before school, during breaks and until 3.30pm after school.
Miss Coleman is sharing her enthusiasm with students and staff with the production of a school magazine for 2020.
Planning is underway to be published early Term 4. The magazine will feature loads of student work including photos, art and news stories.
All students are invited to be involved and can see Miss Coleman in the English staffroom if they would like to be a part of this exciting initative.
It was great to have Rubin from Year 9 and Lachlan in Year 8 take up the opportunity to present THS Radio News this term. They were great representatives of Tumut High and The Clontarf Academy. The boys are pictured with proud Clontarf Director Mr Mat Chapman.
We present THS Radio News each Thursday during school terms on Sounds of the Mountains around 1:40pm.
Miss Ally McInerney, a Teacher Education student from Charles Sturt University recently completed a three-week placement at Tumut High School.
Ally joined in with Charli and Mikayla from Year 8 to present THS Radio News on Sounds of the Mountains on her second last day.
Ally wanted to say how grateful she was for all the support from the staff at Tumut High and how welcoming the students had been. Ally is really keen to graduate and start teaching fully qualified.
Mrs Stroud would like to remind students in Years 10 to 12 to regularly check their emails for information including details on future study and employment paths.

Congratulations to Year 11 student Harry Bottero who has received a donation from The Pratt Foundation to help fund a trip to the 2021 London International Youth Science Forum.
The forum will include lectures from leading scientists, seminars, debates and discussions on current scientific topics of world concern. This opportunity will support Harry's passion for science which began when he selected Science as a subject at Tumut High in Year 8.
