Respect, Responsibility, Safety

Principal's Message

We continue to be faced with challenging times.
The uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 has not gone away and we need to continue to be mindful that we are still dealing with a major health crisis. Tumut High School remains focused in providing a hygienic environment where everyone respects the concepts associated with social distancing. Please continue to reinforce this message at home.  Safety and people committing to following procedures, is a big part of the values we teach.
Re-enforcing this message at home helps our community play a significant role in how we deal with this global epidemic.
In tough times Tumut High School continues to provide an education for all of our students. It is important to realise that although at times it seems we are ' back to normal', there is a long way to go before school education find its 'new normal'.
Today's newsletter captures some of the moments of education at Tumut High and how we are implementing COVID-19 procedures.
Hopefully it helps give everyone an indication of what has been happening during COVID-19 times.

Wellbeing Resources

In recent months, many teenagers have found focusing on their studies difficult without the regularity of their normal school schedule.

For some young people, the lockdown measures have worsened existing issues they have with school, such as social anxiety or motivation.

Refer to link attached for support on this topic.

Tips for our Senior Students

Years 11 and 12 can be stressful, and the situation with COVID-19  has only added to the uncertainty and challenges of senior studies. It is important to have some strategies to manage emotions to re-focus our thinking and look after ourselves.

Please read the attached for great tips on how to deal with changes and challenges.

Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC)

PRC closes Tuesday 25th August.

Students are reminded to fill in books that they have read since September last year on their online reading log. With the requirement for remote learning PRC relaxed the rules to include 10 choice books, so it has never been easier to be acknowledged for reading for pleasure. The online reading log is very easy to fill in. Eleven students have already finished with several very close to finishing. Even if you are not a big reader it is worthwhile recording what you have read to compare again next year.

New Books

The Fiction Cove is being used to distribute and return Resource Centre laptops (to maintain social distancing and clean laptops after use) so the new books are (for now) located on the white shelves opposite the circulation desk. (Thank you to our Year 10 models pictured below). There are also new graphic novels for all ages.

Book Requests

Students are also welcome to request books at the Circulation desk as we are always interested to know what you want to be reading.  Like with Book of the Month "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ugly Animals" which is a CBCA book of the year shortlisted book.

Oliver and Research help

If you need help with using our Library Management System Oliver or locating information, the Teacher-Librarian is happy to help before school, during breaks and until 3.30pm after school.

Tumut Clontarf Academy

It was great to have Rubin from Year 9 and Lachlan in Year 8 take up the opportunity to present THS Radio News this term. They were great representatives of Tumut High and The Clontarf Academy. The boys are pictured with proud Clontarf Director Mr Mat Chapman.

We present THS Radio News each Thursday during school terms on Sounds of the Mountains around 1:40pm.

Teacher on Prac

Miss Ally McInerney, a Teacher Education student from Charles Sturt University recently completed a three-week placement at Tumut High School.
