2023 Staffing

It is with great pleasure that I can inform you of our staffing for 2023.

Class teachers for 2023 include:

Mr Craig Elliott

Mrs Kiara Corrigan

Miss Katrina Lawry working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in collaboration with Mrs Rhea Laverick on Thursday and Fridays.

We welcome Mr Thomas Choo who will take over Mrs Lisa Waters classroom role while she steps into our Learning and Support and Release from face to face role for Semester 1.

Mrs Sharnie Baxter remains our Assistant Principal and Instruction and Mrs Regina Mathews will work one day a week in the office while Mrs Keryn Fairleigh works four day per week. We will continue to see the smiling face of Mrs Sally Grylak one day per week and Mr Rod Pink will look after our school grounds one day per week.

Mrs Tamara Edwards will remain our School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO) Health for 2023 and we are please to have Mrs Jennifer Mullins as our SLSO each day and Mrs Davina Lathwell will be with us one day per week.

I will continue in the Relieving Principal role until Miss Mac returns.

Mrs Emma Hibbard, Mrs Janelle Batrom and Ms Rachel Badman are moving on to other schools and opportunities. We wish them all the best in their adventures. They will be a big loss to our school.

I am sure you are all wondering what the 2023 class structures will look like, however these are continuing to be finalised. We will let you know the classes and the teachers as soon as we can!

Attendance

We would like to thank our school community for their patience and assistance, whilst we have been transitioning to a new system for attendance data collection. Families are now receiving text messaging on the day students are absent and hopefully you are finding this system much easier.

We understand that if your child is sick with symptoms then they need to remain home to rest and recover, however with the impact on learning and socialising since Covid-19, the department has set a target of above 90% attendance for all students. We acknowledge that there are individual circumstances where this is not always possible, however, those students that have reached this target will be recognised with an attendance sticker from the Principal on the Semester 2 report.

Selective High School 2024

The Selective High Schools process for 2024 is now open to all STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN YEAR 5. You can register via this link: https://shsoc.education.nsw.gov.au/ We have a number of students we believe would do well in this process. Please contact Mrs King or Mr Elliott for more information.

Swim Scheme

Our annual Swim Scheme is coming up for students and is now open to any Year 1 student who would like to attend. The program is aimed towards students who are not confident swimmers. Students attend Swansea Pool daily over 2 weeks and learn vital swimming skills. Students will get a bus to the pool each day, however parents will need to collect their children from the poor at 2:55pm each afternoon. The permission note in further down in this newsletter with further details.

Swimming Carnival 2023

We like to be very organised and are running our 2023 swimming carnival on Monday 5 December. We encourage all students 8 years old and up to come along and compete (will be 8 years old at the end of 2023). If a child is not confident in the water they are encouraged to come along and cheer on their peers. It is always a fun day. This is still a regular school day. Any absences on this day will need to be supported by a medical certificate.

Tell Them From Me Survey

A friendly reminder that our Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is now open and has been extended to the 18 November 2022. To access the survey for our school go to:

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/s6fxb

We value community feedback and appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey.

Term 4 COVID smart measures

You may have heard that National Cabinet announced their decision to remove the isolation requirements for COVID-19 positive cases. The NSW Department of Education has been working on this to make sure our COVID-smart settings are aligned when the change to isolation comes into effect from Friday 14 October.

Please see attached letter for COVID smart measures for the remainder of Term 4.

Thank you to all volunteers who help out at the raffles! We appreciate you!

Uniform

If you have any school uniforms your child has grown out of, we would appreciate you donating them to the second hand pool. Not only do the funds we raise from the sale of these items go towards supporting the school, it provides opportunities for families to purchase cheaper uniform items for students.

Opening Hours - Wednesday morning 8:40am to 9:10am (please note there may be a change of day for uniform shop). If you are unable to make this time, please email your order to pelicanpnc@gmail.com and make payment into the P&C bank account (see order form for details). Your order will be filled on the next Friday and given to your child. Our Uniform shop is run by our P&C. Under no circumstances will the school be able to complete uniform orders.

Please be mindful that we do only open and fill orders one day a week. Please be mindful that if the weather was to change and your child needed tracksuit pants, a jacket or jumper you need to be prepared early.
