Principals Report

The Hawkesbury Show

Last Friday the Cattai PS team headed out to the Hawkesbury Show. 'Steering' clear of the showbags and rides we had a wonderful day focusing on learning about the animals, art and craft that was on display. We were able to watch Freddie and Douglass judge the sheep competition. Then we wondered through the poultry shed and patted the animals in the nursery. Next we watched the pigs race. Well done Danni who won a prize for the best pigs name (Ad-ham Sandler). We got to look at the Lego display and all the entries that the Cattai Students entered. Well done Freddie and Will on their 2nd place in the Lego team build challenge. It was such a lovely day connecting with animals and community. I want to thank Miss Maley for organising the excursion, staff for doing a wonderful job of supervising and learning alongside our students and finally our army of parent helpers that ventured out and got to experience this annual event with our students.

Mathematics Parent Information Session

On Tuesday afternoon staff held an information session about Mathematics. Specifically the changes with the new syllabus and how that impacts our current assessment, teaching, learning and reporting. It was a catered event with Subway tea and coffee for afternoon tea. With the early time slot of 2:45pm only 3 families were able to make it. But it was a great opportunity to really unpack in detail where their children were on their own learning journeys. Later in the term, on Tuesday the 20th June, we will be holding a reading/phonics parent information session but this time at 6pm. Engaging the school community in our students' learning and specifically where each child is on their learning journey is a big part of our school strategic directions. We know the value of students, teachers and the parents all working together and the positive impact it has on learning outcomes. Hopefully the later time slot will mean more families can make it out to the session next time around.

Welcome Miss Bushell to C2

On Thursday the 4th May, Miss Bushell came in to visit C2. She has been offered and accepted teaching C2 for Terms 3 & 4 whilst Miss Maley is on maternity leave. She is new to teaching and is in her final year of university. To me it has always been more important to recruit teachers based on their personality over experience and Miss Bushell has personality in abundance and has already started to build great rapport with the students. She has spent the last years whilst studying teaching swimming lessons and running her own face painting business so she is certainly not new to the art form that is working with kids. The plan is to have her come in to visit C2 a few days throughout Term 2 and shadow Miss Maley so she can hit the ground running in Term 3.

Next week, I have some more teachers coming in to visit the school to find a maternity leave replacement for Miss Jones on C3. All things going to plan I should have someone locked in by the end of Week 3. I will let the community know once this has been finalised.

Spotlight on C3

Cattai Public School attended the Hawkesbury Show on Friday 28th April.

C3 had a fantastic time at the show watching the sheep demonstration, the cow show, the reptile show and the pig races.

A great day was had by all! A huge thank you to our parents that helped us on the day.
