Welcome everyone to winter!

We were lulled into a false sense of security with the beautiful weather in the last few weeks.  The good news is that snow is falling on the slopes.

Please make sure your child has warm clothing and head coverings in the mornings. Beanies or ear warmers are a great idea. I am frequently on duty outside in the mornings and will readily attest to how cold the wind from the oval can be.

All years have now finished learning about their first concept and have held a culminating event. This is a fabulous opportunity for parents to engage with the school community. We hope you enjoyed the gatherings and suggest that you send feedback to classroom teachers about your interaction about your child’s learning at this event. A reminder that these are group events and teachers are not be able to discuss any individual child’s progress. Please also know that in the group settings our ‘radar’ is constantly supervising and being aware of the students. Hence we may appear distracted. If you would like to discuss your child’s learning please send an email to make an appointment time.

Teachers are currently working on a new IT reporting process. The Education Directorate is introducing a common report format through the new Student Administration System (SAS). Our school is piloting the new report for K to 6 this semester. More detailed information sheets about this are attached to this newsletter.

The pilot is providing for some thoughtful consideration and information for the directorate.  The new K-6  format includes the achievement standards from subject areas as defined by the Australian Curriculum.  As you are aware,  at Curtin, the achievement standards are fully mapped across our concepts for learning. The reports will be emailed at the end of term in place of printing and envelope delivery. As it is a new system, we will be seeking your feedback in term 3.  We also ask for your patience for any  glitches we may have along the way. If you have any questions about the new system please email me and I will do my best to answer them!

Keep warm and fingers crossed for more snow in the mountains.

Kind regards,

Leslee Roberts

2020 Enrolments

Enrolments for the 2020 school year opened on 29 April 2019. All ACT children are guaranteed a place in their local public school for Kindergarten to year 12. However, due to growth in recent years in enrolments in the public system, some schools no longer have the capacity to take “out of area” enrolments. These schools have been identified as “Category A” schools and a list appears on the Education Directorate website. You will not be able to seek enrolment for your child at one of these schools unless you live within the school’s priority enrolment area (ie, the school’s geographic zone). All schools will, however, consider cases where there are legal issues, or exceptional circumstances based on student wellbeing. To avoid disappointment, you are encouraged to check the information on the Education Directorate’s website so you can make the best decision for your family from the options available.

Woolworths Earn & Learn Program

We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program.

During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to our families.

From the 1st May till 25th June, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker card. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school.

The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more!

We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at school.
