ZIG ZAG Public School

November

Principal's Report

It’s been another busy start to the Term and now we are busily counting down and organising for the end of year activities.

Only 5 weeks to go!

I had the opportunity of attending my very first school camp with our 5/6 group of students. It was such a great experience for us all.

There were difficult moments, such as managing our luggage on and off trains and struggling up 6 flights of stairs at Hawkesbury River Station. However, it was amazing to be with the students as they challenged themselves while abseiling, manoeuvring through the ropes course, working as teams in raft building and so many more activities that were new to most of us.

I could even say another challenge was to pack our bags or work out who belonged to which items of clothing. (Although the girls didn’t have to worry about this with being the first ever to receive high praise for having the tidiest dorm.) Well done Girls.

I had no idea how magnificent the facilities are at the Department’s Sport and Recreation Locations.

The instructors also do an amazing job and they looked after the students in such an exceptional, caring and professional manner.

Back at school and the activities continue!

We have begun another round of Peer Support groups which is always such a special time at Zig Zag; learning the new song for Music Count Us In and singing it with thousands of other students at the same time around Australia; Swimming School has started and the students are having such a great time.

A Debating workshop is being hosted by Lithgow High School and there are various Transition programs occurring for our Year 6 students, as they get ready for their High School Years.

Our Puffing Billies graduated and spent their first morning at “Big School” without Mums and Dads. And next week is Healthy Harold!

All I can say is…”Phew!”

Thrown in the middle of all this was the Catastrophic Fire conditions throughout this week. In the event of such an emergency, the school will always be directed by the advice of the Department, the Rural Fire Service and Police.  I’d like to thank parents for their support and calm around this situation. As a follow up, I have attached a support document for your reference.

Attendance

Letters have been sent home to families for their children's unexplained absences.  Please fill out the explanation and return the letter to the school as soon as possible.   We are currently being monitored by the Department for the high level of absences, therefore it needs to be addressed.  Please be reminded that school times are 9:00am to 2:50pm. Early and late leavers can be disruptive to student's learning and should only take place when unavoidable; ie appointments.  Supervision of students is not available from 2:50pm and students should be collected promptly.   We appreciate your co operation with this.

Parking zones

Just a reminder that parking zones in front clearly marked and regularly monitored by council.  It would be disappointing if fines were issued as they have been in the past.  We would also like to point out that the driveways opposite the school are not for parking.
