TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

On a sabbath day Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely. He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. He said this, ‘When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A more distinguished person than you may have been invited, and the person who invited you both may come and say, “Give up your place to this man.” And then, to your embarrassment, you would have to go and take the lowest place. No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your host comes, he may say, “My friend, move up higher.” In that way, everyone with you at the table will see you honoured. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’

Then he said to his host, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’

When have you had a party?

Who did you invite?

Jesus says that when you have a party, give up your seat to others. What does it mean if you give up your seat for others?

How can we think of others before ourselves this week?

Peer Support - Keeping Friends.

Session 5- This week we looked at how to play in a friendly way in order to maintain and build positive relationships. Throughout the activities the children discovered the importance of taking turns and having consistent rules throughout a game. We encourage the children to practise these skills at home by playing games with siblings, family or friends.

Voice of Youth School Finalists

Congratulations to our three finalist, Annabelle Starkey, Chantelle Soto and Dante Wesser, who have been choose to represent Our Lady of Lourdes at the Hills Cluster Voice of Youth final on Monday 29th August.

Compass Parent Portal FAQ

Can I enter late arrival ?

Parents can only enter whole day absences. Late arrival and early departure need to be signed in the office. Parents must accompany late children to the office to sign the late register.

Once I enter an attendance note can I edit it later?

Once the note has been saved you are unable to make further edits. Any changes can be made by contacting the school.

If we are planning on going away can I add an attendance note for the time we will be away in the future?

An attendance note can be added for future periods. However for extended leave please complete  Application for Extended Leave form located on the school website.  Application must be received prior to the student commencing leave. If approved a certificate for leave will be sent home. The school has the right to review and reject requests for extended leave applications as usual.

Why can’t I add an attendance note to explain my child’s absence after 7 days?

Explanations for periods of absence can only be provided via the portal up to seven days after the absence. After this time you will need to provide an explanation directly to the school.

Celebrating Book Week with a Book Parade.

This year we will be holding a Book Parade to celebrate children’s literature.

This is an opportunity for the children to dress up, create a poster or a mask of their favourite book character.

The book Parade will be held on Tuesday 6th September at 10am on the piazza in front of the Church.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and we look forward to seeing you there.

The children can wear their costumes to school with suitable shoes.

Lunchtimes in the Library

If you feel like a change from the playground and might prefer something quieter some lunchtimes, come on into the library where you can play chess, build with Lego, play UNO with friends, read for enjoyment or simply write or draw just for fun.

If this interests you, then after the play bell goes at lunchtime, line up on the verandah outside the library each Tuesday and Thursday.

Parking

Hills Council Rangers visit all schools on a regular basis and have recently been here at Our Lady of Lourdes, mostly before school. They have fined parents who park in the drop off zone and walk more than 3m from their vehicle.

Rangers mentioned that they are observing parents parking dangerously, too far from the kerb and at an angle. Parents are also causing a danger and holding up traffic by not moving all the way down the drop off area. If you have room please be considerate to other drivers and move as far down as possible so that more parents have room to drop off their children.
