Our vision at Reynella Primary School is to:
“Build a culture of thinking within our community to develop successful learners, people and citizens.”
Achieving this is complex; requiring teaching staff and families to optimise opportunities for students to not only engage in, but take responsibility for their own learning. It is only through a strong partnership between home and school that students are able to progress in their learning and prepare themselves for the world beyond the school gate.
We hope to instil in our students a love of learning and enable them to see themselves as active participants in that process. This year, all of our students are working collaboratively to develop learning goals and we hope that by sharing them with you, you are empowered to have targeted conversations with them and support them to progress. By setting and evaluating their goals, students are able to take ownership of their learning and develop a sense of responsibility. In addition, they gain an understanding of how to assess their own progress, reflect and make changes where needed. This helps to instil a sense of confidence and resilience in our students, which is invaluable in their development.
In our classrooms, we provide a supportive and stimulating learning environment where students can ask questions, express ideas, engage in open dialogue and most importantly make mistakes. We want them to think critically and creatively, take risks, think outside the box and solve problems to make informed decisions. We differentiate learning opportunities so all students are provided with a pathway to success and are dedicated to supporting our students to develop the skills and competencies needed for success in a rapidly changing world.
PUPIL FREE DAY - TUESDAY MARCH 14
Staff will be engaging with a Literacy expert to further build their capacity to teach Reading; oral fluency and decoding. Oral fluency is the ability to read with accuracy, speed and expression. Another crucial area is decoding, which refers to the ability to sound out words and understand their meaning. Our primary teachers in particular have changed their approach to word study as we ensure our pedagogy reflects current research and evidence based practice.
