Year 8 / 10 National Exams

Thank you to Mr Joseph Takaundo from the STMC for running remedial classes over the first two weeks of the holidays for our year 8 and 10 students. Exams are quickly approaching and we want our students to be as best prepared as possible. Next week, our year 10 students will complete their Science practical assessment.

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

Welcome back to a new semester. During the last week of last term, we said goodbye to our latest Work Ready Program trainees. We wish these students all the very best as they now prepare to apply for permanent employment with both Newcrest and other stakeholders.

Our STMC staff continue to support our Year 8 and 10 students as they prepare for National Exams. Thank you to those students who came to the remedial classes provided over the holiday period. Additional classes will continue each weekend and again next term holidays to ensure the very best opportunity for our students to succeed in these very important exams.

Over the holidays, Mr Joseph Takaundo welcomed our Academic Support students from Lihir Secondary School to liaise with the Newcrest Graduate Program participants. This was a very helpful session for these students who heard firsthand experiences and advice about beginning university and preparing for a career. Thankyou to Clarisa Mondu, David Keai and Sebulon Ragi along with the Graduate Program participants for supporting our young people in this program.

Also, over the holidays we had many of our teachers who are currently undertaking the Bachelor Primary Education Program through STMC and DWU working at STMC to complete their Semester 3 assessments. We are in the process of preparing for their final semester face-to-face lectures, which will take place at the end of this term. We look forward to sharing their success when they graduate later this year.

We are in the process of onboarding our next Work Ready Program intake and look forward to welcoming this cohort on 8 August.

Our FODE students and Elementary Teachers from across Lihir continue to work on their distance education with the support of our STMC Staff.

Please note the Kisim Save Library is open for use by all Newcrest Employees and Townsite Residents. Please email SchoolToMineCampus@newcrest.com.au to book a time to come.

Regards,

Mr Kevin Collins.
