FROM THE DEPUTY'S DESK

Road Safety

For your child’s safety, it’s very important to ensure students use the school crossing. At all crossings you must wait on the footpath, at least one step back from the edge of the road. Please wait until the School Crossing supervisor, Claudie, has stopped the traffic and called you to cross.

If you are driving, you must not proceed until the School Crossing supervisor’s hand-held sign is no longer displayed, or until the crossing supervisor indicates that you may proceed through the crossing.

Change of Contact Details

To ensure that the school is able to contact families, would you please let us know if there have been any changes to your home address, email address or phone contact details over the Christmas break.

You can do this by contacting the school office or emailing: drummoyne-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

Thank you for staying in touch with us.

COVID SAFETY UPDATES

Positive Cases

Positive cases

This term we have had a total of 25 students or staff test positive or be a close contact and in isolation.

The school has additional RAT kits available if families are short. If you run out, please contact the school.

We will continue to send home a note when there has been a recent positive case on site, indicating the year cohort of students and/or staff involved.

Changes to Self-isolation Requirements

  • A household contact will only need to self-isolate for 7 days commencing from when the diagnosed person took the test, rather than 7 days from last contact with the diagnosed person,
  • A household contact is not obligated to self-isolate as a contact more than once in a 21 day period (if the person is diagnosed with COVID-19, they will need to self-isolate again),
  • A person who had COVID-19 and later becomes a close contact or household contact does not need to self-isolate as a contact if it has been less than 8 weeks since the person finished their self-isolation period (up from 28 days in the current Order),
  • A medical clearance notice (which exempts diagnosed cases from any vaccination order for 6 weeks) will be able to be issued by or on behalf of NSW Health (in addition to a medical practitioner or nurse),
  • Updating the provisions relating to medical clearance to align with recent amendments to the Public Health (COVID-19 Care Services) Order (No 3) so that a medical clearance certificate operates as a 6 week exemption to the booster requirement as well as the requirement to have 2 doses of the vaccine.

To support students in isolation

Please access the Department's Learning From Home Hub found at:

Testing positive to COVID-19

If you test positive with a rapid antigen test, you must:

1. Register your positive test on the Service NSW website so you can be linked to important health care support and advice based on your COVID-19 risk. If you or someone in your family can’t register online, please call Service NSW on 13 77 88.

If you test positive with a PCR or rapid antigen test, you must:

1. Isolate immediately for 7 days.  Your household must also isolate for 7 days.  If you have a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath after 7 days, please remain in isolation until 24 hours after your symptoms have resolved.

2. Tell people who you spent time with from the 2 days before you started having symptoms or 2 days before you tested positive (whichever came first) that you have COVID-19.  This includes your social contacts, workplace and/or school.

3. Monitor your symptoms. If you are concerned you should call your GP, the NSW Health COVID-19 Care at Home Support Line on 1800 960 933 or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. If symptoms become severe call 000.

MATHS NEWS @ DPS

International Maths Day was celebrated on Tuesday 14 March. At DPS, stage 3 students continued their preparation for the first Maths Olympiad and Maths Games competition commencing on 23 March. The aim of these programs is to develop student’s flexibility in problem solving, foster creativity, strengthen intuition and stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment of mathematics.

The Maths Olympiad is an enrichment opportunity for high-achieving Years 5 and 6 students, allowing teams and individuals to ‘put their talent to the test’ and compete against other schools and students across Australia and New Zealand. Maths Games provides stage 3 students with an opportunity to learn and develop valuable maths problem solving skills, while fostering an appreciation of maths and its application to the real-world.

For the first time, some of our Stage 2 students will have the opportunity to participate in Maths Explorer as an enrichment program with Mrs Russ. Maths Explorer program introduces mathematical problem-solving to primary students in Years 3 and 4. Adopting a fun, practical, approach that students can relate to, and lays foundations for future learning and encourages collaboration.

Our teachers were also busy this week, collaboratively planning explicit teaching and learning opportunities for our students with a focus on measurement and geometry.

Year 4 Excursion to Cockatoo Island

On Tuesday 15 March, Year 4 went by ferry to Cockatoo Island to learn about Aboriginal settlements and the arrival of the first Europeans to our country. We really enjoyed the excursion, it was very informative and interesting. We thought it was very fun and enjoyed seeing the older buildings and listening to our guide talk about how the convicts used them. We also enjoyed participating in small role play activities. There were some very interesting facts along the way and we wish we could do it all over again!

LIBRARY NEWS

Code Club

Code Club returns first week next term!

Why join Code Club?

Students might become coders, but they might also be data analysts, teachers, social media collaborators, CEOs, lawyers or activists. They’ll work in fields that don’t even exist yet! And they’ll need to know how technology works.

Coding and digital skills are fundamental for our changing future. By learning how to code, young people are building digital literacy skills for a changing world. They’re also developing valuable soft skills including logic, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.

Code Club is open to students in years 4, 5 and 6. It will take place in the library from 3:30 to 4:30 on Thursday afternoons. If you are interested, drop by the library and pick up a note from Mr Neufeld. We only have room for 30 students, so it’s first in, best dressed!

OFFICE NEWS

Making Parent Online Payments easier

A new, upgraded POP page is coming from Wednesday, 30 March 2022! It replaces the old Westpac page and is accessible from the school’s website. The page allows parents and carers to make online payments anywhere and anytime. By using the upgraded page, parents and carers will enjoy:

  • a quick and simple user interface;
  • mobile-friendly experience – making it easier to pay via phone or tablet (as well as from a desktop computer); and
  • multilingual support which enables them to use POP in their preferred language.

SMS Messaging

In an effort to make it easier for parents to notify the school of a student absence, we are using SMS messaging. At 10am each morning, if your child has been marked absent, you will receive an SMS message to your phone. You will then be able to respond via return SMS, phonecall, email or reply via Skoolbag with the reason for your child's absence.

If you have documentation supporting the absence (such as a medical certificate or negative COVID test result), please send it to school with your child when they return.

School Photo Day

School photos were taken this week including individual, sibling and class photographs. Group photos will be taken next term with the date to be determined.

If you have not paid for your child's photo then you can still go online and pay at www.theschoolphotographer.com.au and follow the instructions.

OR

Call the photographer's office on 9674 9824 and pay over the phone. A charge of $5 will be added for phone payments.

On Tuesday, 12 April The School Photographer has scheduled a studio day for students who were absent from school on the day. Please call the Seven Hills Studio office on 9674 9824 to make a booking.

Special thanks to our school prefects, namely : Jack, Julian, Leo, Sienna, Sophie, Tom and Zella who did an outstanding job escorting classes and organising students. Our teachers and the photographers noticed their initiative and were extremely grateful.

Assistant Principal

Terms of Use

Students using Opal cards must tap on and tap off in line with the Opal terms of use. All students are required to comply with the Student code of conduct.
