Principal's Message

Dear Community

As we approach the end of what has been quite a unique term, exciting in some ways and exhausting in others, it is nice to be able to end with some good news. I am pleased to announce to those of you who don’t already know that Miss Clarke in Room 9 is expecting her first baby, due at the end of September. I know you will join me in congratulating Annie, and her partner Chris and wishing them all the best for the next adventure in their lives together.

ANZAC Day

It was interesting to reflect this morning, that at this time last year, during our ANZAC Service, that a state-wide lock down was announced. Our service this year was also COVID affected with regulations meaning a traditional service was not possible. However, we did do an ‘on air’ service at 2pm this afternoon, with students in their classrooms listening to speeches and reflections, as well as participating in the traditions such as the Last Post and the minute’s silence.

The highlight of the service was without a doubt listening to recordings of our amazing choir performing. I have pasted the links to the private You Tube channel below. When watching, please keep in mind that all term the choir have been practicing in separate year level groups to allow the program to continue in adherence to COVID restrictions. These videos are the first time they have all performed together this year, which makes their achievements even more special. Well done Choir and Mrs Bird. We can’t wait to see what else you come up with this year.

Holiday Break

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all an extra relaxing school holiday break. I know many of you are going away and I hope you enjoy every minute of your time together as families, having time to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Our staff will also be enjoying some much-needed downtime after a particularly challenging term. Emails, including the main school email address may be monitored intermittently over the break, but you may not receive a reply until the school and front office reopens on Tuesday 26 April.

Have a great break everyone, and we look forward to seeing you back at the start of Term 2.

Your Move Program – Reflections and Achievements - Term 1

Congratulations Scarborough on a magnificent first term of 2022.  Looking back, Scarborough Primary School achieved some truly remarkable things last year and made a noteworthy contribution to the growing success of Your Move. With 40 stories posted, we attained Double Platinum last year and we earned amazing rewards and winning grants.  This year so far we have posted 15 stories  and have just today reached Platinum with over 1,000 points. Yippee!!

This term we took on a new Your Move student team from a mixture of Year 4’s. Over the last few weeks these students have shown great commitment turning up to regular meetings, taking on their new role with such pride and passion and sharing the student load. They have been using their skills to help to create new ideas and innovative ways for Scarborough to reduce car travel and increase active travel to and from school.

We ran a few events throughout term one, starting with the “Hands Up Survey”, we celebrated “Twos Day” with related classroom activities, road safety talk for Pre-primary, and pulled off two relatively large events. The first, being the National Ride to School Day with a slow race obstacle course and second, the whole school event “Trusty Tuesday and Thursday Active Travel Trial competition (TTTATT)”. It has been wonderful to see how these events have influenced behaviour change throughout the school community, this in itself a huge success. The overall winners of the TTTATT competition will be announced the first week in Term 2! Well done to all the classes that have made this a great success!

The Easter Scavenger Hunt was a fun way to celebrate Easter and the last day of school. We called it "What you wouldn't normally see if you drove to school in a car".  Thank you to all the students, families and staff for your amazing efforts!  A huge shout out to the Your Move student team for todays setting up the footpaths, fences, trees and inside the school for everyone to enjoy in the Easter Festivities! Especially arriving at school super early to set it up. Well done team! Thank you families and students for participating in the hunt. Lastly,  I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs de Villiers and Mrs Daniels for all their amazing help to make the giant Easter eggs, that were used for the Scavenger Hunt collages which are placed around the school.

That's all for now. Stay tuned to what we have in store for next term!

We wish all our families, staff and school community an egg-cellent Easter!

Kind regards

Your Move Team

CANTEEN

We are always looking for canteen volunteers. So, if you or anyone in your immediate family (aunts, uncles, grandparents etc) have any Friday mornings available, Laura would love some assistance in the SPS canteen.

Helping out in canteen means that you come in and support Laura for 2 hours, usually between 10am-12pm or 11am-1pm; whatever works for you. Duties consist of washing dishes, prepping pizzas, handing out lunches, etc.

Email us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

A special reminder to all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers; you can also order lunch and recess from the canteen every Friday. Don’t bother making yet another lunch; order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.
