Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.
IRON COVE PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
Last night I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Iron Cove Performing Arts Festival where Rozelle was represented with five performance groups. Our Ukuleles, Senior Band, Strings, Stage Two Dance Group and Choir all performed with skill and enthusiasm. The smiles on the performers' faces lit up the auditorium of the Seymour Centre. It was great to see so many Rozelle parents in the audience enjoying their children performing on stage, after the long impact of COVID. I would like to thank Jen McLachlan, Jen Christie, Amelia Roberts, Courtney Hansen, Helen Crimmins, Lucy Clarke-Randazzo and Mel Dunne for their commitment to our students and the performing arts programs offered at Rozelle.
UNIFORMS - PARENT HELP NEEDED
Over the past few months there has been a decline in the number of students wearing correct school uniform - especially in the senior grades. The school would appreciate the support of parents / carers in ensuring their children are wearing the correct attire before leaving the house each day. This includes the correct school hat and jumper.
New items can be purchased online or directly from the school uniform shop which is open every Friday morning. There is also a good range of second hand uniforms available. Thank you for supporting this request.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL SUCCESS
Last week's athletics carnivals were both a great success and it was great to finally have the weather gods smiling down. There were many highlights and outstanding results by individual students. Participation was exceptionally high and it was great to see so many students having a go and doing their best. Sporting carnivals of this nature always require extensive planning and I would like to acknowledge the hard work and leadership of Alden Kwok, Liz Singleton and Claire Rolland.
END OF YEAR DATES - IMPORTANT!
This year, the last day for students falls on Monday 19 December 2022. Being a Monday, the school understands some families may look to begin their Christmas vacation on the weekend prior. Therefore, the school will conduct all end of year traditions on Friday 16 December including: the Leavers Assembly, farewell arch and the signing of shirts for Year Six. Our Year Six families may like to note this date on their calendar.
KINDERGARTEN 2023
Our Kindergarten enrolments continue to grow and it is essential that parents of children starting school in 2023 submit the online application form as soon as possible. If you have a child starting school next year - please act now! If you have a friend or family member who is yet to submit their application form - now is the time! Once application forms are received and processed, the school will share important information regarding school visits and our Transition to School Program.
PRESCHOOL 2023
Over the past week the school has been processing the preschool applications for 2023. As in previous years, there are always more applicants than there are spaces. While it is disappointing when a child is not offered a place, the school always follows the criteria outlined in the preschool enrolment policy. Amanda in the front office has been contacting families and we look forward to meeting the youngest members of our school community at orientation mornings scheduled for Term 4.
ROOFING PROJECT - HERITAGE BLOCK
In Term Four the Department of Education Asset Management Unit will commence a roofing replacement project on our main block - the heritage building. The project is essential and this year’s weather events led to extensive leaking and water damage. The scope of works is extensive and complex as they are replacing the old slate tiles with new slate. The main block will be surrounded in scaffolding for most of Term 4 and there is likely to impact how students enter and exit the school. While roofers work above a classroom, the class will be relocated to another learning space. As principal I will be working closely with AMU and the contractor to ensure safety and minimal impact on the daily operations of the school.
