Term 3 Week 9

Principal’s Message

Kiss and Ride Safety

Please be conscious of road safety when using the Kiss and Ride Zone outside the school on Boundary Street each afternoon. Kiss and Ride Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means:

- you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes.

- You're required to remain in, or within 3 metres of, your vehicle.

Please refrain from encouraging your child to run between cars to enter a vehicle parked on the road. Children should only enter vehicles that are parked against the kerbside in the designated zone.

Please wait patiently while the cue moves for kiss and ride. Refrain from veering onto the opposite side of the road to move around traffic as this can cause a serious accident if two vehicles hit head-to-head.

We want every member of our school community to be safe when travelling to and from school. Please work with us to ensure the rules are followed and personal safety is prioritised at all times.

Pedestrian Crossing Road Safety

Another reminder that with the newly finished crossing on Ocean St comes the responsibility for all adults to teach our children how to use the pedestrian crossing safely and effectively. Please think about the following when talking to your child about crossing the road:

- wait approximately 1 metre back from the road kerb

- stand steady and still while waiting to cross the road. Don’t play games or run around.

- Wait for the signal from the crossing guide to walk across the road.

- Walk safely across the road directly to the opposite side of the road. Don’t cut corners or veer off the crossing.

Thanks for supporting the message of road safety with your children.

Book Week

Congratulations to everyone on their fine efforts for the celebration of Bookweek 2022. From the door decorations to the costume parade, everyone has contributed to a wonderful celebration of literature. A big thank you to Mrs Dunne who has coordinated a magnificent event and to all the staff for their support of the activities for student engagement throughout this week. Many thanks to our parents and carers for your ongoing support of these unique learning opportunities for our students.

Holiday Wishes

Term 3 has been a massive term packed with many opportunities for our students to engage and participate as active learners in the school environment and beyond. We have celebrated our NAPLAN 2022 results and are proud of every student’s effort in the classroom in learning literacy and numeracy from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our students have engaged in quality sporting and extra curricular opportunities and have been lucky to attend excellent excursions, workshops, tournaments, competitions and camps. We wish all our Dudley PS families a safe and relaxing holiday period and look forward to welcoming our students back to school to begin Term 4 on Monday 10 October, 2022.

Take care,

Chad Tsakissiris

Tell Them From Me Survey

The best way to inform school innovation and improvement is through authentic engagement with all stakeholders in the school community: students, staff and parents/carers. The Tell Theme From Me (TTFM) Survey is one way that we listen to what students, teachers and parents have to say and provide valuable insight for our school planning. The TTFM Survey is a complete evaluation system for measuring student engagement, wellbeing and classroom climate, and other factors known to affect learning outcomes. Information is captured from students in Years 4-12, parents/carers and teachers, to guide decision-making for school planning and ultimately increase student achievement. The link for our parent survey can be found here:

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/dudleyps

The survey closes on Friday 4 November 2022.

Award Recipients

Each assembly teachers awards four students in their class who are demonstrating one of our six learning dispositions of Self-Motivation, Perseverance, Creativity, Curiosity, Collaboration or Reflection. Congratulations to those students who were recognised in our week 6 and week 8 assemblies.

We would also like to congratulate those students who received a special Principal Award from Mr Tsakissiris, or an Environment Award from our Sustainability Committee. You are recognised by staff as being role-model school citizens of Dudley Public School. Keep up the great work!

K-2 Reptile Park Excursion

Last Wednesday students in K-2 enjoyed a fabulous day out at the Reptile Park. After the restrictions of the past two years, this excursion was a long time coming and it was lovely to see so many happy, excited faces throughout the whole day. I would also like to congratulate all our students on fantastic behaviour, respect, and manners, with many of the Reptile Park staff commenting on their insightful questions and beautiful manners. Great job Dudley - we are so proud of you all!

A special mention to all our parent helpers who took time out of their own busy lives to support this activity. A huge thank you to Josh, Paula, Renee, Bec, Min, Mary, Lisa, Nat, Margaret, and Tanya. What a team!!

Our Stage 3 students performed exceptionally on Monday 12 September to win the University of Newcastle's Science and Engineering Challenge.

We had a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team entered. Each team was split into eight small groups and they had to complete two tasks each with each task being worth 100 points.

Our Year 5 team took out the challenge with our Year 6 team coming in second place. A remarkable achievement!

Drama Workshop

Stage 2 students enjoyed a fun filled day at HSPA learning all about drama techniques and how a stage production works.

Students were guided by drama experts to create their own dramatic piece. The students had a fantastic day!

Home Reading

Congratulations to students who are now reaching 200+ nights of home reading. What an outstanding achievement, particularly in Term 3! We recognise what an incredibly busy term it has been and thank all our wonderful parents and carers for their continued support.

We hope all our students have thoroughly enjoyed our Book Week celebrations this week. It has been wonderful to see so much discussion around books, authors, characters, costumes and the joys of reading.

We will also have a stall selling homemade jams, chutneys, and baked goods, so get in touch if you’d like to make something to donate.

Please let us know if you are available to help on the day or with any of the planning and organisation of the market.
