Term 2 Weeks 8 and 9

Principal’s Message

As we are near the end of Term 2, teachers are finalising Semester 1 reports. These reports provide information about your child's achievements as well as areas for growth. They are an important tool for staff to communicate the progress of students to parents/carers and I know that it takes additional time on weeknights and weekends to prepare, write and edit each child's report. When they come home in Week 10, take the time to read them and if you have any questions please make an appointment through the office to see the classroom teacher.

Last week our Starstruck dancers participated in the annual Starstruck performances. It was very exciting for the students involved and I would like to thank Mrs Wild for her organisation and time to allow the students to participate.

Today I attended a Police-Principals Forum at Belmont Police Station with other Principals from the Lake Macquarie area. The focus of the morning was Keeping Kids Safe Online. Information and resources were shared and it was a very thought provoking session, identifying trends, impact and where to find support. The eSafety Commissioner has resources for parents to use with students and strategies if children are the target of inappropriate online behaviour. It also provides information about the latest online tools, apps and websites that are being used and the pitfalls associated with them. The resources include information suitable for preschoolers.

Approaching our School

At Dudley Public School we welcome and encourage parent contributions and involvement; and recognise we are more likely to achieve successful learning outcomes for our students when this occurs.

We expect and encourage parents at this school to advocate strongly on their child’s behalf and to raise concerns about the treatment they feel their child has received at school or the way in which our school has dealt with the matter.

However, it is important everyone at this school, irrespective of the role they play, is treated with dignity and respect.

Respectful and focused communication about students fosters positive relationships between parents and school staff. Our staff are not required to put up with behaviours from parents that they find offensive, threatening or intimidating.

The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public school to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.

Staff will find a time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. Please remember that while our staff are in class, on duty in the playground or dealing with other matters, they may not be available to answer your questions immediately.

Paul Kelly Cup Regional Finals

The AFL Regional Paul Kelly Cup was so much fun, it was great to watch all of the boys trying their hardest. It was a hard day of AFL but we managed to win all three games. Before our game, we watched the girls play in their final game but they sadly lost. That gave us boys the courage to go out and win it for Dudley and the girls.

Once that final whistle went we knew we had finally won and we are now on our way to the state finals at Giants Stadium.

I would like to thank all the parents for transporting and Mr. Horadam for making this whole thing possible.

-Louis Jac Skinner

Going to the AFL Regionals Paul Kelly Cup was so exciting and to have another time to play with my team. To watch all the other girls bringing out the monster in them.

In our first game, the team was strong and we got a win. Our second game, the other team was tough but we pulled out a win. But our last game was one of the hardest games I have ever played in AFL. My team gave 110% but we could not get a win. After all the bruises, my team was disappointed but to see the boys get a win, the girls were as happy as if we won.

The girls team can’t wait to go to Sydney to watch the boys.

On behalf of the girls, I would like to thank Mr Horadam for taking us all the way the regionals and for coaching us every Thursday and Friday and for putting faith in the girls.

P&C News

P & C Meeting

We know your time is precious so a big thank you to everyone that was able to attend the meeting last night. Your input is very important and appreciated.

From The Library

It is great to see so many students logging onto the Premiers Reading Challenge and recording books as they read them. So far, over 100 students have begun logging books with a total of 19 students having completed the required reading. A big congratulations to the following students who have finished the PRC in the last two weeks – Meiteea C, Sophie C, James K, Kai M, Lachie G & Lily S.

I am excited to announce that early in Term 3 students will be involved in celebrating Book Week and Education Week. The theme for this year’s Book Week celebrations is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’. As part of these celebrations students will have the opportunity to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and will be invited to dress up as their favourite book character for our Book Parade. Please be on the lookout for more information soon!

Thanks, Miss Reed.

Uniform Shop News

Lost Property

Currently there are two locations for lost school uniforms.

The old hall (where OOSH operates outside school hours care) and

directly outside KH ( Mrs Hunt's kindergarten room) - in a laundry basket.

Often names are not written on the clothes tags so they can't be returned to the owner. As extra security, it is a good idea to write names on the inside of the item itself or use iron on name tags.

To avoid unnecessary expense to all parents, should a uniform item turn up in your

laundry basket, backpack or back seat of the car that belongs to another child, parents are asked to return them to the above lost property locations or better still, directly to the owner - promptly.
