St Mary's Bulletin

Term 1 - Week 5 (4 March, 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Responsibility

We have a duty to be accountable to ourselves and to others.

Sacramental Program 2022

Our Sacramental Program commences on Thursday, 10 March with a Meeting in the Church beginning at 3.30pm for all those families who have a child receiving one of the Sacraments this year.

Mask Up Monday

A number of our Year Three to Six students chose to wear to Mask Up on Monday.  This was a good learning opportunity in preparation for yesterday.  Our students, as usual, have taken the wearing of masks in their stride and with maturity.

Faction Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to Salvatorians who won this year's Faction Swimming Carnival!  The carnival despite it being different to normal was a huge success and that is in part to Mrs Crees' organisation but also to the support of the parents who volunteered their time to help!  My sincerest thank you to those parents (and siblings) who undertook a job, to the Thompsons and Marcia Sayers for ensuring everyone was well nourished, to John and Megan Simmonds at the pool for their amazing support and of course Mrs Crees for all her hard work to not only organise the Carnival but negotiate the ever-changing COVID landscape, to ensure that our students were able to have a Swimming Carnival.  I leave my biggest thanks for our amazing students who participated enthusiastically and with perseverance.  A parent commented to me 'that there's lots of sportsmanship on display here today'.  This is our students to a tee - always kind, caring and compassionate.

Interschool Swimming Carnival

A joint decision has been made by St Mary's, Merredin College and Central Wheatbelt to not proceed with next week's Interschool Swimming Carnival.  The health and safety of our communities and the ever increasing case numbers have led to this decision.  It is hoped that we will be able to reschedule the event in Term Four.

Canteen

We welcome Mrs Demarte back next week.  She has recuperated from her procedure and is really looking forward to being back at school.  Mrs Demarte will have the canteen open on Thursday, 10 March and then on Monday, 14 March as per normal.  Students from Kindy to Year Six will have the opportunity to order on the Thursday via QuickCliq.  All orders should be in by 10am, Tuesday 8th March.

Thank you to those that have offered to help Mrs Demarte in the canteen over the term.  The canteen will not be able to run without this help.  As per current guidelines - proof of vaccination will be required if you are volunteering in the canteen, elsewhere in the school or at other schools, more than once per week.

Book Club

Issue Two of Book Club has been sent home with students this week. Orders are due in by Monday 14th March. (Issue One was not sent home as we received it very late due to delay with post)

Library Procedures

We are very lucky at St Mary’s School to have such a well-resourced Library.  The staff have recently undertaken a review of the Library procedures, which are attached for your information.  Thank you to Mrs Discenza who has been learning about and implementing a new borrowing system – Oliver, which will make searching for books, borrowing and returning more streamlined for the students.
