Melrose Park Public School Newsletter

2022 Term 2 Week 3

Election Day

The federal election has been called for Saturday 21st May which is quickly approaching. The school's parent body, the P&C, will host a BBQ and Cake Stall on the day as a way of engaging with the community, promoting the school and of course, raise funds to enhance school programs.

We need your help to make the day a success.

Please make the effort to donate an hour, two or three, of your time and volunteer on the BBQ or Cake Stall. We also need helpers to set up early in the day and pack away  late afternoon.

Volunteers can include other family members such as grandparents, teenagers and family friends.

The Melrose Park voting station welcomes all voters from any electorate with many voters stopping in after playing sport in the local area.

Come, vote at your local school, stay a little longer and  volunteer your time to make our BBQ and Cake Stall a huge success.

Road Safety

In the coming months parents  who arrive from the west of the school will notice the construction of a raised speed hump across Waratah St. This project will take months to  complete.

This long awaited project will help support students and families cross Waratah St with more visibility.  The speed hump that has been completed on Hope St is providing pedestrians with a safer place to cross the road.

Please be patient during the construction work period.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is important to ensure satisfactory progress is made in all learning areas. Should your child be absent, legislation requires an explanation be provided outlining the reason for the absence within 2 days of your child's return to school. This can be provided by email, via our online notification form, by phone or via a note to the class teacher.

Our attendance goal is for all students to be attending school 95% of the time over the course of the year.

Attendance is recorded each day. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day, including sports days unless your child:

  • has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays)
  • is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
  • is sick, or has an infectious illness.

Absences, whether full day or partial, can also be marked as unjustified if the reason provided does not meet the reasons outlined above.

Punctuality

Student learning is more successful when students are present consistently for the whole school day.

Arriving at school and class on time:

  • ensures students do not miss out on important learning scheduled early in the day
  • helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
  • gives students time to greet their friends before class
  • reduces classroom disruption.

Punctuality is an essential life skill that  is valued from the very beginning of schooling.  We expect all students to be at school by 8.55 am each day.

Students who are late must report to the office first and obtain a late note which is then taken to the classroom.

Cake Stall

As you are aware Election Day is fast approaching. Saturday 21 May.

The P&C will hold a cake stall and need your help to provide yummy treats to sell.

We would like each family to supply a full cake or box of treats ( slices, muffins, cookies, biscuits, small cakes). Visitors to the school love  buying a cake or two from the cake stall to take home. All profits go back to the school.

A cake box will be sent home with your eldest child shortly with further information.

Melrose Park Community Golf Day

Congratulations on the success of the 2022 Melrose Park Community Golf Day held last week.

Thank you to our P&C organisers of Cathy, Steph and Nina on the organisation and coordination of the event. With support from PAYCE Developments and local sponsors the day was a success with nearly $100,000 raised for the six local community groups that were involved.
