Junior News

As we reach the middle of Term 1, it is fantastic to reflect on the amazing growth our students have made already so early in the year. Students will be reaching the end of their current maths units on ‘Number and Place Value’ and  ‘Shape’ and beginning their new topics of ‘Addition and Subtraction’ and ‘Length’.

In Literacy, Foundation students continue to learn individual letter names and sounds, correct pencil grip while tracing and beginning to write letters of the week on the solid line. Grade 1/2 students will begin learning about short vowel sounds in words they read as well as writing short narrative texts.

This week the Junior students enjoyed participating in Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Participating in eating delicious pancakes and joining the Wednesday Liturgy with their peers. Classes discussed the importance of these days and their significance at the start of Lent.

Please continue to complete daily reading of take home texts, M100 words and letters. We ask that you fill in the take home diary and check on a Friday afternoon for any notes from the classroom teacher.

Middle/Senior News

This week in the classroom we begin our two new maths units with a focus on the number topic of ‘Addition and Subtraction’ as well as the measurement topic ‘Length’ with many engaging lessons planned.

In English, we continue the explicit teaching of phonemes and graphemes in spelling and daily reading lessons to focus on accuracy, fluency and comprehension. We will finish up our Recount writing topic and move into Narrative writing, which is always a favourite!

A big congratulations to the many achievements seen across the senior school in the past two weeks, including the election of captains, participation in swimming competitions and the submission of letters of application for Social Justice Leaders. This week, the senior school will also be electing SRC members for each class from Grade 3 - 6. Good luck to the many students who will put their hand up to take on this role of responsibility.

We also pray for  the Grade Three students preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the Commitment Mass being very well attended and the Workshop Evening to be held via Zoom on Thursday.

Religion

Today we launch into a very important Season in the Catholic Calendar- The Season of Lent. In conjunction with this, we REFLECT, RESPOND and ACT in different ways. Caritas Australia helps to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity for all. The two words project and compassion are ideal for us to understand poverty cannot just end- it becomes a PROJECT for all of us as we endeavour to show COMPASSION to those less fortunate than ourselves.

In support of Project Compassion each grade will receive a Project Compassion box so we learn to save money and to SERVE others. Families will also receive a Box to remind us to give to others.

This Year - we give - For all Future Generations- what a beautiful thought to think about the future generations to come and how we can help NOW.

All Project Compassion boxes should be returned to the classroom/office by Monday 4 April.
