Great Work

It is hard to believe that the halfway point of Term 1 is here and we are looking at a very quick run towards Easter. Please take a moment over the week to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of your family in making the start of this year a great year already.

Students can feel proud of the way in which they have engaged with learning, bringing their best every day and continually demonstrating our School Values. Our Prep students have settled in well to their new learning environment and are now certainly working out what life at ‘big school’ really is like.

Back to normal next week…

Next week our school will feel a whole lot more normal with the relaxation of some of the COVID -19 restrictions.  Parents will once again be welcomed back on to the school grounds, parade will take place in the Undercover Area and staff and students will no longer have to wear masks.

COVID-19 is definitely prevalent in our school community and despite a relaxation on safety measures parents are encouraged to refrain from sending children to school if they are sick, continue to practice good hand hygiene and try to maintain social distancing as much as possible.

Our school has a plentiful supply of Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT’s) and we will continue to provide them to children and staff if they require one whilst they are at school.

Playgrounds - Before and After School

A reminder to parents that our school playgrounds and forts are OUT OF BOUNDS before and after school; even if parents are supervising their own children. When playing on school grounds, students are required to be under the direct supervision of a rostered staff member. This is why we ask students not to arrive before 8:30am. When they arrive, they are to assemble in the Under Cover Area. Please support our staff with respect to this legal requirement.

Our students look terrific….Thank you!

Thank you to all of our families for really making the commitment to ensuring that our students all look great in their school uniform. Just this week we have had a number of very positive comments from the wider community about our students travel to and from school. This demonstrates that our students are seen, respected and safe within our local area and is something that can give us all a sense of comfort. We know that the weather can change very quickly on the Sunshine Coast and we know that we will all be reaching for a jumper very soon.  During this time of the year, children may wear a jumper to school and remove it early in the day.  This often results in our lost property collection becoming out of control.  Parents are encouraged to ensure that all clothing is clearly named ensuring the item can be returned to its owner.

A reminder that students should have their hair tied back if it reaches their shoulders. Please avoid half-up/half-down styles as this does not meet the requirements.

Prep Learning

The Prep students have settled into school very well, (even after all our disruptions!). It is fantastic to see them enthusiastically learning and practising the sounds we have learnt so far this year.

In English we are also looking at stories and thinking about the beginning, middle and end of the story and the parts of the stories we like the best. During show and tell they are bringing their own favourite books from home and telling the class all about them.

Look at what the Preps have been doing!

Year 1 - Twosday Fun - 22.2.22

Just as well this date only a 'one off'!

Look at this crew! All the students, and even the two teachers, look very crazy with their two ties, tutus and other funny dress up options.

A very funny day for Year1 on the 22.2.22.

Regards,

Vivian O'Brien and Tina Too Too 🙂

Year 2/3 News

English

In English this week we have been focusing on narrative structure. We have begun to plan and write short stories about friendship using an orientation, complication and resolution.

We have also been developing our learning wall as we go. Our learning wall helps us to connect our work to the achievement standards to show us how we are going and what we can do to improve our work!

Year 5/6 News

Week 6

This topsy turvy fortnight has meant that we have had to be very adaptable.

Our highlight would have to be on Wednesday when we were lucky enough to venture into the kitchen with Mrs Thorne, Ms Rose, Mrs Holznagel and Mrs Hain.

Before we did however, we played along with a Would you rather? Dr Seuss Themed PE style brain break with full participation. Fair to say there were a few exhausted bodies at the end.  I have included the you tube link if you would like to play along again at home.

Week 5 - Playing Safely on the fort

We know that playing on the fort can be lots of fun, but how can we be safe?

  • One person at a time
  • Take turns to swing on the monkey bars and stand back from swinging monkeys!
  • It is not safe to run on the fort
  • Keep your hands to yourself, especially when you are up high
  • Use the slide one person at a time, from the top of the slide down
  • Wait until your friends are out of the way before you have your turn

Week 6 - We know how to wear our school uniform

  • We have a wide brim hat.
  • We have a school jumper.
  • We wear our hair neat and up.
  • If my jumper has a hood, it is down off my head.
  • We can wear black leggings.
  • We wear black shoes and socks.
  • We can wear our sports shirts on special days.
