Scarborough Primary School Newsletter - The Link

Issue 5 – 5 April 2019

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

As Term 1 draws to a close, I would like to congratulate students, staff and parents of the Scarborough Primary School community for the enthusiasm and positive energy that they have brought to our school this term.

Our students have come a long way in their academic, social and emotional learning through engagement in activities based around a carefully balanced range of strategies including intentional play, explicit instruction and inquiry based learning.

These activities would not have such a positive impact on student learning without the dedicated and thoughtful input from our amazing teaching staff and engaged and supportive parent community. Staff at Scarborough PS go above and beyond in their planning for our students and the support received from parents who volunteer in classrooms and support events such as grandparent afternoons and Harmony Week activities, are greatly appreciated.

I would also like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break and remind you that students start back in Term 2 on Tuesday 30 April.

ANZAC Service

The Scarborough Primary School ANZAC service will be held under the flag poles at 2.00pm, Friday 12 April.

Students from Pre-primary to Year 6 will be in attendance and we encourage parents and community members to also come and pay their respects to all service men and women past and present. This year our specific focus will be on Indigenous Australians who have served our country in the armed services.

Also, it is not too late to send in entries to include on our Memorial Wall of Honour which will be displayed in the under cover area.

Community request

As in previous years, the very talented parent and florist, Penny Dormer, has offered to create wreaths for our ANZAC service.

Could families please bring donations of flowers and/or foliage to school on Friday morning for our wreaths?

Penny will be creating the wreaths during the morning; the more we have, whether from your garden or purchased, the better.

Thank you for your support with this significant community event.

Swimming Carnival 2019

Hi everyone, your Parmelia sport captains have taken over this news report to keep you up-to-date with the events of the swimming carnival. It was an exhausting but fun day where every one did their best for their house. We swam freestyle, breaststroke and relays followed by noodle race, unders and unders and boogie board race.

Thank you to our awesome team of volunteers who helped with the carnival. Mrs Salt certainly appreciated all that you did.

It was a close competition between the three houses. Can you guess who won?

GO , PARMELIA!

Nature Play Refurbishment

Our P&C has been lucky enough to secure a Stronger Communities Development grant which has allowed us to engage Projectscape to upgrade and refurbish our nature play space.  The works will be undertaken during the school holiday break in April, but we will need some community volunteers to assist with some pre and post jobs.

We’ll need some helpers on Saturday 13th April and Saturday 27th April for some jobs such as sanding, painting, mulching, gardening, planting and the like – if you’re able to lend a hand please get in touch with Jackie Jackson 0422 977 208.

It will be great for the kids to come back after the break to a new and exciting play space!

Uniform Shop Coordinator Needed for 2020

The uniform shop coordinator is a great way to support your school.  If you are interested in getting involved with the P&C, come and check out the shop on Wednesday mornings or email me if you would like to discuss this rewarding volunteer role. This can be a one person role or you can run it with a friend!
