TERM 3 WEEK 9, 2022

A Message from the Principal

Dear parents/carers,

Yesterday we had a number of students attend the semi final of the Hills Public Speaking Competition. It was wonderful to listen to all of the confident speakers from a number of schools. Our students all did magnificent speeches, congratulations to Mansy, Aarna, Divya, Dilara, Thibishka and Kayan.

We have a number of events happening next week with mini athletics carnival and sausage sizzle on Monday and  Open classrooms/ Art Exhibition on Wednesday. We hope to see lots of parents/carers on site. It is great that things are settling down with COVID and that we are able to hold events with parents and carers on site. Please remember you must be well to attend.

We have changes to our English and Mathematics curriculum coming into effect next year. See the parent information sheet to read about the changes. In 2023 the curriculum will change for grades K-2 and in 2024 there will be changes in the Years 3-6 curriculum.

Fact_sheet_for_parents_and_carers.pdf

We highlight the important of regular attendance every week in our newsletter. Part of regular attendance is arriving at school on time everyday. When the bell finishes ringing at 8.55 am children should be in their lines ready to walk into their classrooms. When children arrive late it disrupts their class, teachers have to stop what they are doing mark the child as attending, sometimes assist the child to get organised or re- explain work. Every parent can assist with avoiding these interruptions by having children at school on time.

Preschool Buzz

In preschool we have been learning about bees and their importance in helping our planet. The children are learning that bees collect pollen and nectar from the flowers and take it back to their hive to make honey. Inside the hive there is a queen bee and lots of worker bees. Bees have wings and six legs.

Today the children followed the steps in the procedure of how to make toast with honey. First they had to wash their hands and Mrs Akamatis placed the bread in the toaster. When the toast was ready, she spread margarine and honey on the toast. The children really enjoyed eating the toast with honey.

Let's Dial Up Attendance!

What does attendance look like at PHPS?

Regular attendance at school is important for students at our school to reach their full potential. The Learning and Support team are looking very closely at attendance and parents will receive a letter to explain how many days their child has been absent for in the past 10 week period.

Currently we have 137 students whose attendance is below 85%. 85% attendance equals 30 days (6 weeks) of absences across the school year.

Students with more than 95% attendance will receive a Penny Possum ticket with their letter in celebration of their attendance at school. This can be placed in their class Poss Box to contribute to their class reward.

Let's work together to improve school attendance and make a positive difference to education and learning at Pendle Hill Public School.

Warmest,

Nicole Hogan

Why is Preschool important?

Preschool helps children develop many vital skills. It particularly assists children to develop important social skills which make a huge difference to their learning when they commence school. If children come to school being able to better follow a teacher direction, sit still and concentrate in a group of children  and they are ready to start learning as soon as they begin school. Our preschool program focuses on these skills as well as many other areas and prepares children for more formal learning in Kindergarten

The preschool program is a one year program for children in the year before they commence formal schooling. Children are only eligible for preschool for one year before they commence school. We are happy to discuss your child with you and offer advice if you are not sure of when they should commence preschool in 2023.
