Term 1 Week 6

From The Principal

In-School Public Speaking Competition

This year, thanks to the keen enthusiasm of Miss Cooper and our students, our school will be offering public speaking opportunities for our 3-6 students. This will include the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition, where we can send two students from each primary class, and the Premiers Debating Competition, where four students from 5/6C can enter as a team.

To select our representatives for these opportunities we will be holding an in-school public speaking competition. Students will be required to prepare and deliver their own speech on a given topic as well as deliver an impromptu speech. This in-school competition is open to all 3-6 students and is not compulsory.

The in-school public speaking competition will be in our school hall this Friday (6th of March) at 9am. Parents are welcome to attend. I look forward to adjudicating this exciting event with Miss Cooper!

Please see the full note below for more information.

Introducting our Student Representative Council for 2020!

Student voice is something we highly value at Terara, and our teachers are experts in allowing all students to have a say in what happens in the classroom and on the playground. The Student Representative Council (SRC) is another way that our school allows students to have a voice and make meaningful impact within our school.

On Friday I had the honour of calling up our newly elected SRC members to the stage at assembly so that our captains and vice captains could give them their new badges. We are very excited to give these students leadership opportunities and cannot wait to see the great things they do to make our school even better.

Easter Raffle

Our last day of school for this term will be our annual Easter Hat Parade and Raffle. Each year, our SRC do a fantastic job organsing this event and raising money for our school. Please get involved by donating some Easter Eggs into the raffle! You can start bringing in eggs from next week. Remember, each donation you make to our Easter Raffle gives you one free ticket into the draw!

Voluntary Contributions for 2020

Each year our school relies on a range of funding to provide the equipment and resources available to your children. One form of funding is the Voluntary School Contribution. Families are asked to contribute a yearly fee, set in consultation with the school’s Parent & Citizens Association, for the purchase of items such as sporting equipment, computers & iPads, musical instruments etc.

As the name states, these contributions are completely voluntary. No student will be disadvantaged by non-payment or miss out on any educational program.

The school contribution for 2020 is $42 per student capped at $84 per family.

Please consider making this payment as soon as you are financially able to do so. Thank you to all families who are able to contribute for the benefit of our students.

From The Students

Interview with Finn!

Our names are Grace and Indy. We are in Year 6 and we got to represent our school at the District Swimming Carnival. Another person who represented our school was Finn from 1/2D. He did so well that he came 2nd overall for the freestyle event. We thought that was pretty great and decided to interview him about his success.

How did you feel when you were swimming?

I felt good, excited, a little bit nervous and happy.

What did you come and in what races?

I came:

  • 2nd overall in 50m freestyle
  • 2nd in my 50m backstroke heat
  • 3rd in my 50m butterfly heat
  • 3rd in my 50m breaststroke heat

What did you feel like when you found out you had come 2nd and 3rd?

I felt delighted, excited and a little bit nervous.

What do you think pushed you to your limits?

I wanted to do it for the school and I really wanted to go to regionals. I also feel like if I did it quicker I would get to McDonalds quicker.

How did you get so good?

I do squad training one day a week, I train in my own pool and I do Little Athletics. I also want to do nippers.

This Week's Froggy Draw Winners!
