Term 3 Week 5: 15th - 19th August 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 5 Term 3

This week is Book Week at Caves Beach PS!

The theme for Book Week 2022 is Dreaming With Eyes Open. The theme explores how books can take children on a journey into other people’s lives, into other perspectives and new topics, while also teaching and entertaining readers.

As part of our Book Week celebrations, today our children have participated in a workshop by Jenni Goodman. Jenni is a children's book illustrator who lives locally. Jenni uses different mediums to create her artworks including watercolour paints and pencils, both coloured and graphite, as well as digital media. She loves capturing the beauty of nature and expressive characters in her illustrations.

This Thursday 18th August, we have invited parents and carers for a combined Education Week and Book Week celebration.

Activities timetable for the day:

10:30am Classroom visit- Parents can visit their child’s classroom and participate in various activities. Parents are welcome to visit more than one class during this time and may like to spend approximately 15 minutes in each class.

11.15am Enjoy a picnic LUNCH with your children. Sausage Sandwiches available pre ordered.

11.45 -12.45pm Book Parade - under the big cola. Parents will then depart

To top off the day, in the afternoon staff will be reading a favourite book to their student Advocate group.

Make My Day

Last Thursday I was fortunate enough to have a visit from Stefan and Mattias from 3C.  3C Students have been discovering how using adjectives to describe a noun will enhance a sentence. Both Stefan and Mattias used adjectives to describe a troll. Stefan’s troll was enormous, ugly and terrifying and Mattias’ troll was disgusting, horrifying and abominable. I would not like to meet either of these trolls with descriptions like that!

We are now beginning the planning process for 2023. If you know your child will not be returning to Caves Beach Public School in 2023 or have any information that may effect our planning could you please contact our school office on 49711838.

Class of the Week

2M

Last week in Mathematics, 2M explored the relationship between division and multiplication. We tried to solve real life problems like…

Jack buys 18 fish. They are divided equally into 6 bowls. How many fish would go in each bowl?

The students had to read the question carefully, looking for the numbers and strategy needed to solve the problem. They enjoyed experimenting with lots of concrete materials and explaining their mathematical thinking.
