Dear parents and carers,
This week is National Science Week and is also the lead up to Book Week which is celebrated in Week 6. Information about our programs for both celebrations are provided in this newsletter.
Book Week is always an exciting time for students, teachers and parents. It is a time to celebrate the fantastic books that are published each year and find out which books have been awarded the Children’s Book Councils of Australia Book of the Year Award. Our school community will be celebrating Book Week with a performance, a character parade and a book fair.
Book Week performance – Tuesday 23rd August: STORY QUEST at 1:50pm This year we are very lucky to be celebrating book week with a performance from PERFORM EDUCATION who will take students on a journey through the stories from some of the CBCA shortlisted books.
COST: $8 per student
Book Week Parade under the COLA: Tuesday 23rd August at 9:20am
Each year we ask students to dress up for the day as a book character of their choice. Students may wear this costume all day. Costumes do not need to be purchased for this day by you. We encourage students to be creative and make a costume from items you already have at home. Students are asked to bring a copy of the book containing the character they are dressed-up as to show to the school.
Book Fair will be from Friday 19th August – Wednesday 24th August
All students will have the opportunity to preview the books for sale and complete a wish list. Parents and students are invited to visit the school Scholastic Book Fair to purchase books on the following dates and times:
Friday 19th August | 8.30am – 9.00am | 2.50pm – 3.10pm |
Monday 22nd August | 8.30am – 9.00am | 2.50pm – 3.10pm |
Tuesday 23rd August | 8.30am – 9.00am | 2.50pm – 3.10pm |
Wednesday 24th August | 8.30am – 9.00am | 2.50pm – 3.10pm |
NSW Health are unwavering in their message that masks are an effective way of minimising the transmission of respiratory viruses and infections, and protecting our community, especially those who are at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and flu.
As case numbers within the community continue to rise, this is a reminder that mask wearing is strongly encouraged for students, staff and visitors, particularly indoors, and that now is not the time to become complacent.
Masks continue to be required for workers who support our students who are at greater risk of serious illness should they contract COVID-19, whether they be in schools for specific purpose (SSPs), support units or mainstream classrooms.
Refer to NSW Health’s Mask wearing pageExternal link for further information. You can also go to the NSW Department of Education’s Advice for families for full details of the COVID-smart settings currently in place at our school.
