Dear Parents & Community Members,

Welcome to Term Three – hopefully with the mostly glorious weather of the school holidays there was some quality family time.  I am pleased to say the new term has commenced well with children back into routines very quickly.  This term is traditionally a busy one with a significant focus on our athletics events, although as you will note from the Term Planner included with this Newsletter, there are a number of other events on also.

This Term we welcome several new faces to our school team. Mrs Judith Hardwick as our Literacy support teacher, Mrs Dee Bisby in Room 3 on Thursdays, Miss Sarah Woods with the Kindy Kookaburras and Lorikeets on Fridays and Mrs Melissa Dullaghan in PP Blue as their Education Assistant. Please make them feel welcome.

GIFTED AND TALENTED: Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC)

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

ASSESSMENT OF YEAR 4 STUDENTS FOR THE PEAC PROGRAM

The PEAC Program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6.

PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging.

All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program.

Testing at Glengarry Primary School will occur on Monday August 1.

The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for PEAC courses and extension programs during 2023 to 2024 and also to inform educational provision in schools.

If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment please notify the school in writing by Friday July 29.

Around Glengarry

Winter Sport Lighting Carnival

WOW... Glengarry cleaned up this year at the CDSSA Lightning Carnival. All teams showed great sportsmanship and tried their best in all the round robin games across the day.

Special mentions go out to all the Teachers who supported the Home and Away season and Carnival day - Mrs Powley, Mr Lillico, Ms Stephens, Ms Algar, Mrs Rudd and Mr Meston.

Also, thank you to our parent volunteers; Toni, Mel, Zahraa, Dave and Ray who supported through coaching. A big shout out also to the previous Glengarry students who came to help umpire games: Addi, Olivia and Mrs Ciccarone's son Alex.

Glengarry won the Home and Away Football and Netball shields, A Div Football, A Div and B Div Netball, B Div Volleyball! Soccer also had a PB of not losing any matches... Well done to everyone!

In Phys Ed and Sport sessions we encourage everyone to always try and do their best.

This year’s Cross Country was a fine example of children understanding the importance of running for fitness and the challenge of finding out how hard they can push themselves.

Well done to you all for working to build strong character.

2nd - Sturt on 629 Points

3rd - Forrest on 597 Points

Wonder Recycling Rewards

Room 1 and 2 are helping to keep soft plastics out of the environment and landfill.  Please continue to save your bread bags and plastic tags and place your collection into the pink recycling box, outside Room 2 each Friday Morning. The more we collect, the more points we get, to buy play equipment for our school!

We have filled one box so far.  The more boxes, the more points we receive.

Little League Stars

During the school holidays some lucky year 5 and year 6 boys were selected by their junior football club to play in the half time Little League game at the Fremantle Dockers v Port Adelaide AFL game at Optus Oval.

It was an amazing experience for them.  Well done boys!

(the boys were Jake M, Joel G, Max R, Nate D, Flynn F, Lachie V & Hayden T)

National Teams Competition

Misty W participated in the National Teams Competition.  She played very well, winning 3 matches, despite her team finishing last.

On June 28, the state 12 and under Netball Squad was announced and Misty has been successful in making that team as well.

Congratulations on your achievement Misty!
