Communication with School

Communication is an integral part of a successful school. We value the positive partnerships between school and home and the role that effective communication plays in ensuring success in this area.

We are currently reviewing our whole school communication procedures and wanted to remind families of the preferred process of contacting the school and staff.

Phone: 02 4944 7203

Email: dudley-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

Classroom and playground issues should be communicated with the class teacher first and foremost. Teachers can be contacted by sending an email to the school email which will be forwarded on to the relevant staff. We ask that the staff’s personalised email addresses are not used by parents. You may also call the school to set up a time to have a phone call or meeting. Our Assistant Principals are also available to follow up on these issues after the classroom teacher level has been utilised.

General administration or organisational issues can be called through to the office by phone or you can email the school. Note that we have an ‘Absentee Form’ and a ‘Change of Details’ form on our Skoolbag app.

Absences should be sent in writing through the eForm on the Skoolbag app, email to the school email address or hand written to the class teacher. Please do not email these directly to class teachers.

Teachers are more than happy to schedule meetings with parents when the need arises. This can be coordinated through the front office via phone or email.

And we mustn’t forget that a simple hand written note is an effective way to make personal contact with your child’s teacher too.

Many thanks to our families for supporting us in ensuring that our communication systems remain effective and positive in supporting student learning and wellbeing.

After Hours use of School Facilities

We are extremely proud to be a highly valued asset of the Dudley community. Our school provides a safe and secure place for learning throughout the day for our students. After school we have our OOSH operating and have some external providers hiring our hall space for their individual businesses also. Whilst we are happy that families use the oval and court after school for games and quality family bonding time we ask that you refrain from using the building of the school, including the toilets, as these are part of the hire arrangements we have with our community users each afternoon. We appreciate your understanding of this matter.

School Times

The NSW Department of Education has a policy around the hours of the school day. This details the school day as requiring 4 hours and 45 minutes for explicit learning time and 1 hour and 15 minutes for break times, totalling a 6 hour school day. We are currently not meeting this requirement and are therefore looking to adjust our start time from 9:10am to ten minutes earlier at 9:00am. We understand the implication that this has on our families and wanted to give advance notice that the new times will begin in Term 3. This decision has been discussed with the staff, P&C and our school director.

Winter Uniform

As we move into the colder months of the year we remind parents and carers to support our school uniform policy by ensuring your child has the clothes they need to stay warm in the playground and classroom. There are a range of hoodies and jackets available from the uniform shop for purchase if a wardrobe upgrade is required. In addition to the jumpers, we remind families that all students should be wearing a hat during both breaks and during sport/pe lessons. There is no ‘off-season’ for wearing hats as we need to be sunsafe all year round.

Parent Satisfaction Survey 2021

As part of our reflection and reporting of the 2021 school year we are seeking feedback from our parents and carers about your experiences in 2021. The following survey link provides an opportunity for families to provide information that will be used in the Annual Report for 2021. Please take time to complete the survey which will close on Friday 17 June. https://forms.gle/QpcZfjuVgqjjvHsc6

We always welcome any recyclable materials (e.g. small bits of fabric, buttons, elastic, ribbons, small boxes, stickers etc).

PSSA Soccer 2022

It was with great pleasure that I accompanied the boys and girls PSSA soccer teams to Speers Point this year. Both teams played with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and perseverance.

To begin with, the teams were up against Hillsborough Public School.

The girls won this game and the second against Kahibah which took them to the grand final against Charlestown South. The result was a 5-0 win to Charlestown South.

The boys had a 4-2 loss to Hillsborough, then a win against Wiripaang Public School. This led them to play against Warner’s Bay which was a close game, resulting in a 3-3 draw.

Congratulations to both teams on the way they represented Dudley Public School. They did a fantastic job!

Sustainability

School Sustainability

We have had so many wonderful things happening around our school lately:

Pen and marker recycling program – our new recycling initiative has made a huge impact already. Last week, one whole bucket of pens, markers and highlighters were dropped off to our local Officeworks store for recycling. As a school, we are thrilled to know that we are saving so much waste from landfill. A huge thanks to Harry, our School Sustainability Officer, for his regular and enthusiastic collection efforts.

Garden Club – Our weekly garden club continues to go from strength to strength. On Wednesdays we are always blown away by the number of enthusiastic volunteers who turn up eager and willing to lend a hand! Our sensory garden (located near Mr Horadam’s room) is almost complete, with the raised garden beds our next focus.

Garbage Guardians – We are thrilled to announce that our Garbage Guardians program kicked off last week. Eager and willing to minimise waste wherever possible, we are lucky enough to have a dedicated group of Year 5 students manning our bin pods every recess and lunch time. Our Garbage Guardians have been trained to assist younger students to dispose of their rubbish correctly.  Hopefully we should see a huge improvement in the way we dispose of our rubbish, minimising landfill and bin contamination. Garbage Guardians will be looking for students doing the right thing and disposing of their rubbish in the right bins. There are some wonderful prizes up for grabs, with our first prize being issued at our Friday assembly next week. Thanks, Garbage Guardians!

Waste Education – Over the next few weeks, we will be focussing on each of our five coloured bins to educate our school and local community about what can and cannot be recycled. This fortnight, we are shining a light on our Blue Bin. This is our Return and Earn recycling. This is for containers that we drink out of… poppers, flavoured milk, cans and water bottles.

Our Return and Ernie Emu says:

  • First, tip out any leftover liquids onto the grass or a tree
  • Remove straws and place them in the red bin (general waste)
  • Don’t crush the container or the barcodes or we won’t be able to claim it!

Thank you for your continued support.
