Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a very busy and productive term with a great deal of learning and events occurring. Our students continue to be super learners and stretch themselves to be the best Bidwill students they can be.
On Wednesday 22nd June we will be holding parent / carer forum from 9:15am – 10:15am in the school hall. This forum is a chance for parents and carers to give their feedback about what you love about our school, what you would like to see improve, how you wish to be involved at school and what you want to know about your child's learning.
We want as many parents and carers as possible to attend, so we can design our school to fit the needs and aspirations of our whole school community. We believe that having the input of our parents and carers is vital, as you are all an integral part of our school community. Please come along if you are able, and we will ensure that feedback is provided in the coming newsletters about points discussed.
Please RSVP using the flyer that went home this week, for numbers and catering purposes. I look forward to seeing you at this important event.
On Thursday 26th May, the Department of Education Deputy Secretary, Mr Murat Dizdar, and our Director of Educational Leadership, Mr Mark Diamond, visited Bidwill Public School. Mr Dizdar and Mr Diamond visited the school to see the amazing things that are occurring at our school and to witness what classes were doing to commemorate National Sorry Day. Firstly, we visited KC, where Mrs Clancy and the students presented both Mr Dizdar and Mr Diamond with Reconciliation Week Sorry Day cards that they could share with other schools. Mr Diamond has already shared the cards presented to him to a Kindergarten class at Bourke Public School, another Connected Communities school he visited last week.
1M and Mr Morris shared with our visitors their collaboratively developed Acknowledgement of Country. They also read a Sorry Day letter they had written together to share their empathy for Aboriginal people who had been impacted upon by the Stolen Generation. Mr Dizdar was able to share with 1M his excellent school attendance records from when he was a student and encouraged the students to strive for exceptional attendance. K/6Y were undertaking literacy and numeracy lessons when we visited their room, and students proudly showed our visitors their work. Miss Santarosa’s stage 3 students shared with Mr Dizdar and Mr Diamond letters they were writing to the editor of a newspaper expressing their thoughts on National Sorry Day. Our final stop was the Pre School where students shared with Mr Dizdar activities they liked to do, and Miss Tiffany shared the work the Pre-School are doing connecting with local services.
Two of our school leaders, Ashanti and Isla, did an outstanding job welcoming Mr Dizdar and Mr Diamond and accompanying us around the school.
A timely reminder that if you have any concerns about your child at school, the first-person parents and carers should call or come and see is the classroom teacher. If the classroom teacher is unavailable, or you feel you need to speak with another member of staff, the stage Assistant Principal is able to be contacted.
Our Assistant Principals who supervise each stage are:-
What does it mean to be sun safe?
· Being sun safe means we understand that the sun can be harmful and a hat is a sensible way of protecting ourselves
· Being sun safe means we develop the safe habit of wearing a hat at all times when outdoors regardless of how hot it is
· Being sun safe means we make safe decisions about where to play, how to stay cool and how to make safe, healthy and protective choices.
To stay hydrated and Covid-safe, students are asked to bring a water bottle to school everyday. Students will be able to refill their bottle during the day.
