Letter from the Acting Principal

We place great importance on our student leaders. The year 5s have written letters of application to apply for their leadership positions for 2023.  Our Leadership positions for 2023 are as follows:

School Captains, Student Representative Council (SRC), Social Justice, Arts, Sports, E-Learning and Sustainability Leaders.  All Year 6 students will also have the role of being a big buddy to a Prep student.  The purpose of the Leadership program is to build the capacity of our Year 6 cohort to be confident and capable people who take responsibility for themselves and others.  Speeches and the announcement of roles will occur in the week beginning 5th December.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

Last Friday I had the great privilege of announcing the students who had completed their premiers Reading Challenge and present them with their certificate of achievement.  Our participating students are among 66,000 school students who completed the challenge this year and together they read a remarkable 2.9 million books!   Supporting children’s reading is one of the most important things we can do to encourage their love of learning as it opens a gateway for them to discover more about the world in which they live.

We will continue to be a part of this challenge and I encourage you to participate again next year.

New Play Equipment

It is with great excitement that we have finally locked in a starting date for our oval playground. Richard Bellamo from RB Landscaping will commence works on our oval during the holidays and is expecting to be completed by mid March.  This project will introduce outside play structures such as a ropes course, slides, climbing towers, swinging bars and interactive nature play areas.

Important Documentation

This week we will be sending home some paperwork for families to check, update and return to school.  Whilst I recognise that this is a busy time of year for families I ask that all families take the time to review your contact details and child/rens medical information so that we can ensure that our records are accurate and up to date.  Even if no changes need to be made please sign the form and return it to us as an acknowledgement that they have been checked.

TIME:     Commencing at 6.30 p m until 7.30 p m

 Dear Saint John’s Community,

For many years it has been a tradition that Saint John’s Choir has been invited to participate in, and perform at the Ferntree Gully Library Christmas event.

“CHRISTMAS FAMILY STORY TIME AND SINGING”

Once again our Choristers are invited to participate in the activities provided and to provide a   performance item for all who attend.

The Library staff will welcome all those who would like to come and join in the celebration and share the singing with the members of Saint John the Baptist Choir.

If you would like to join the Choir for this traditional activity please call the library and make a booking. All of Saint John’s students are welcome to join the Choir on this occasion.

Looking forward to this annual, joyful performance.
