Week 4, Term 4 - 6 November 2019

Principal's Post

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Monday, our Year 5 candidates for the 2020 SRC did a wonderful job of speaking to the school community. All students stayed within their time limit and were able to express their desire and contribution they would make if they were successful in being a member of the SRC next year. Votes are being tallied and the successful candidates will be announced at our Presentation Night on Thursday 12 December.

This year we have had a few more students join the LEPS community, which means our little school is outgrowing some of our classrooms. Before the beginning of next year, we will receive an additional demountable classroom to accommodate our learners. It will be placed next to our existing demountable classroom on Daly Street.

Next Friday, our students will be participating in a whole school games day which is part of their PBL reward. Students will be in groups K-6 where they will work together in a few rotational games. Your children are extremely excited about this reward day and are looking forward it as well as continuing to display our focus behaviours to reach our end of year reward.

“Alone we are smart. Together we are brilliant.” – Steven Anderson

LEPS is Buzzing with Hat Heroes

The hive is buzzing with excitement for our Whole School Games Day on Friday 15th November. The students are so close to the inflatable obstacle course and with lots of buzz tickets given this week for being a hat hero they will hopefully reach our next reward over the coming weeks - FINGERS CROSSED! The hat hero focus lesson is a reminder to wear your school hat but also understand why it is important to be safe in the sun.

Keep buzzing!

It also allows our teachers to interact with your child to understand their needs to help support a smooth start to their school journey.

Year 6 Graduation Meeting Tuesday 12 November 2019

All Year 6 Parents are invited to the Year 6 Graduation Meeting on Tuesday 12 November at 5.45pm.

Swimming Trials Monday 18 November 2019

Please be reminded:

  • Your child must be able to swim 50 metres confidently to compete
  • Notes are due Friday 8 November
  • Payment is on the day at the pool.
  • Parents are responsible for transport to and from the event

This year we are trialing a 'Swim Trial Carnival' for 2020, in lieu of our swimming carnival at the beginning of the school year. This decision is based on the timing of the Regional swimming carnival in 2020 being very early in Term 1 and due to the majority of LEPS students being categorised as non-swimmers (swimmers that cannot confidently swim 50 metres or more) from the carnival in Term 1 2019.

Selective High School Enrolment in 2021

Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard.

Selective High School Year 7 enrolments for 2021 in NSW are available at:

• seventeen fully selective high schools

• twenty-four partially selective high schools

• four agricultural high schools, three of which have boarding places where students live at the school for the school term.

• one virtual secondary school, Aurora College, for students in rural and remote areas.

Students are usually in Year 5 at the time of applying (2019) and in Year 6 when sitting the test (2020). Please note that the closest selective high school to Albury is in Wagga Wagga.

If your child is academically gifted and would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact the school and speak to Mrs O’Connell to find out more information and receive an information sheet. Applications can be made online from 8/10/19 until 11/11/19.

Our Garden Club is collecting the Woolworths Dicovery Garden Pots

Our beautiful school grounds are constantly evolving with the seasons, we are always replenishing our vegie gardens, herb gardens and flower gardens. The Woolworths Discovery Garden pots are a wonderful way to propagate plants, we would appreciate any of the varieties and as many as you can spare. Our goal is to receive enough 'pots of fun for everyone'! Donations can be placed in the box at the front office.

Did you know our canteen is run by our School P & C?

Did you know the canteen is registered for 'Work for the Dole'?

Do you have 2 hours to spare per week, month, term?

The canteen needs volunteers and is under 'New Management'. If you could lend a hand, the canteen runs Tuesday to Friday 9am to 2pm. However, we are particularly busy between 10am and 12pm.

Children love to see their family members behind the counter. The best part is that no skills are needed! Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles are all welcome! It's also a good opportunity to share ideas for menu items.

If you have previously volunteered, we would love to see you again! Please see the office for a form to update your details.

School Travel - Term 4 2019

2020 school travel applications now open

To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided some information below.

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

·       are continuing at the same school

·       are residing at the same address

·       have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
