Principal's Message

We have almost made it to the end of another year here at Scarborough PS, a year that has been filled with a fantastic range of amazing learning opportunities and experiences for all of our students. For this, I would like to pay credit to our outstanding staff who continually go above and beyond to make many of these opportunities possible.

Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that they are providing excellence in curriculum content and delivery in our classrooms each day, but beyond this, they also put a lot of thought and effort into creating broader experiences for our students such as STEAM Expos, choir activities, surfing lessons, whole school community events and student leadership opportunities. My thanks extend beyond teaching staff who are present in classrooms each day, but to all staff from our cleaners, gardeners, office and library staff, and everyone else in between. We all truly work as a team to provide the best we can for our students. Everybody’s input is invaluable. So thank you!

I’d also like to acknowledge our students and the amazing efforts that they have put in this year. This time each year I get to do one of the favourite parts of my job, which is reading through all of our student’s reports. I genuinely enjoy reading about the progress that has been made by everyone, from our kindy’s who have been discovering sounds, letters, numbers and the joys of learning to navigate a classroom environment with lots of new friends, to our Year 6 students who we have nurtured over the years, developing academically, socially and emotionally to ensure readiness for the adventures that high school holds for them. Well done everybody!

Finally, to our Scarborough Primary School community, you are amazing! You are engaged, positive and proactive. We appreciate the ongoing support that you give us in doing the best for your children; everything from the tireless efforts of our P&C and Board, to everyone who has volunteered their time in classrooms, coming to school events and the way you have engaged with our classroom teachers to ensure the best for your children. You inspire us to strive to do our best every day and are such an integral part of our cultural fabric.

On that note, I’d like to wish you all a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to seeing you all again in 2020.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Presentation Night 2019

The event begins at 6.00pm.

Students need to arrive at classrooms by 5.40pm.

Students will walk down to the assembly area as a class at 5.55pm for the 6.00pm start.

Parents should refer to individual class teacher’s communications around what costume or clothes their children should wear for the event.

Children will be available for pick up from their classrooms at the conclusion of the event. This is to ensure student safety and a somewhat orderly departure from the assembly area.

We would love to see you there.

Year 6 Graduation Assembly

The Graduation Assembly is on Wednesday 18 December at 9.30am. This event is for the graduating Year 6 students and their families. The year 3/4 classes will be part of the assembly. It will take place in the library and will be followed by a morning tea for the graduating students and their guests.

After the morning tea the students will attend a graduation lunch at Grill'd in Scarborough. Please refer to the note sent home for all details.

Room 9 End of Year Excursion

On Thursday the students from room 9 will be involved in an excursion to Scarborough Beach Pool as an end of year celebration. A note went home with details. Mrs Martin and Will Veldman will be the supervising staff.

Japanese

A special congratulations to Year 4 student Zoe F from Room 1.

All year she has shown an interest in creating origami pieces, so a few weeks ago I gave her a challenge to create something 3 dimensional.

She created a dragon and a backpack. Both pieces have intricate details and involved lots of dedication. You should ask Zoe about her 3D paper folding and if you need help with origami please see her for advice. She is the S.P.S. origami master.

See photos of Zoe and her work below.

Library News

The library is now closed for Stocktake.

It would be greatly appreciated if parents could ensure their children return ALL their library books. We recognise that reading at home is an important aspect of children’s learning. We would encourage parents to access your local public library with your children to loan books, read books from home or use online reading resources during the holiday period.

We look forward to having everyone back in 2020 to explore the fabulous books available in our wonderful library.

Thank you
