Holy Trinity Primary Granville

Term 1 Week 2 - 7th February 2020

From the Leadership Team

Philip Mahony | Principal

Welcome to the new school year at Holy Trinity. A very warm welcome to the new families joining our school community, I’m sure your time at Holy Trinity will be very rewarding. We welcome new teachers to Holy Trinity, Ms Karen Kelly and Miss Nikita Hubbard.

Next Tuesday 11th February we will have a Welcome to Kindergarten BBQ and disco. I am sure if you were able to attend this event when your child started school, you remember how much fun it was and how everyone became “one” through this experience. We wish our new Kindergarten children all the best as they commence their 7 years of catholic education at Holy Trinity.

To assist you in understanding how your child’ classroom operates, we invite you to attend the Parent Information open classroom at school on Wednesday 12th February from 3:20 pm to 5:00 pm. You are welcome anytime between 3:20 pm and 5:00 pm and can visit all the rooms. During your visit your child can show you around the room and you can have a 5-minute chat (no longer than 5 minutes) with the class teacher. You will be able to share your hopes for your child with the teacher and learn how you can work together in partnership to ensure your child has the best year of learning at Holy Trinity. Today you would have received your child's Learning Journey for Term 1.

Our theme for our school this year is, “Come as you are.” As a community we will be exploring ways we can reach out to the marginalised and vulnerable to support the call from Bishop Vincent and acknowledge our indigenous members of our community.

With the new Kindergarten children, we also welcome the following children to Holy Trinity.

Cathrin Haddad (Year 1), Karim Haddad (Year 2), Lars Alipio (Year 2), Aarash and Aadarash Adusumalli (Year 2), Yar Maluach (Year 2), Regan Ghimire (Year 3), Jeer Maluach (Year 3), Aliai (Lilly) Bol (Year 4), Manyang Bol (Year 5), Hany Akot (Year 5), Lucky Akot ( Year 5), About Maluach (Year 5), Sonny Lua (Year 6) and Aziz Jabeyra (Year 6)

Thank you for your cooperation with the Maths Assessment (MAI) conducted on the first two days of school. The teachers completed over 150 MAI’s over those days and have completed the reminding students during the week. The teachers have gained valuable information on your child’s mathematics ability and can now plan appropriate lessons and tasks to meet your child’s individual needs.

Coronavirus

We will keep you updated through the SkoolBag app about the latest information for students attending school who have travelled to China during the holidays. Please encourage your children to wash their hands carefully, use hand sanitisers and avoid contact, such as shaking hands.

The newsletters will be available every fortnight (Even School Weeks) for 2020 through the SkoolBag app. There will be no update in-between newsletter. Any urgent or important information will be sent to parents immediately by the skoolbag app.

 Clothing Pool

We are always in need of second hand uniforms, especially at the beginning of the school year. If you have any items in good condition, can you drop them off to the school office.

Road Safety and Parking

Please be aware of our neighbours and ensure you are following the Road Rules for the safety of all the students. You are not permitted to park across or in driveways. Not adhering to the road rules may result in a fine and loss of demerit points.

It is also important to show your children a good example and always cross the road at the crossing. Children should use the car doors on the curb side of the road, not the driver's side.

Bushfire Appeal

On Friday 14th February we will be having a Mufti Day to raise money for the Bushfire Appeal.

The students are asked to bring a gold coin donation and wear Red, Orange or Yellow.

Religious Education News | Mark Galea

New Religious Education Curriculum: Over the past two years the CEDP Mission Team have been developing a new Religious Education Curriculum. This new curriculum has been created in consultation with schools, Bishop Vincent and the priests of the Parramatta Diocese. It will be implemented by Holy Trinity in Term 3 of this year. The new curriculum takes into account the following premises:

  •     Student voice is at the heart
  •     Jesus needs to be central to our learning

  •     The dance between student life experience and our rich living tradition

  •     Deeper learning

  •     Experiential inquiry-based pedagogies

  •     Formation of teachers as witnesses

Beginning Of Year Mass: Today we were able to join with the students of Delany for a beautiful mass. Thank you to anyone who was able to join us. We were able to welcome new students and staff to our community. If you were unable to be present we extend a warm welcome to you also.

Ash Wednesday and Lent: In 2020 Lent begins on the 26th of February with Ash Wednesday. We will have a liturgy on this day. During Lent there will be many school and parish opportunities for you to deepen your faith.

Do you want to know more about the Catholic faith? We are more than happy to help you. If you would like any information please contact Mr Galea or Mr Mahony through the school office.

2020 School Fees

School fees for 2020 will be issued in the next few weeks. If you are wanting to start making payments, please use the details from last year's statement for B/Pay and BPoint payments, or pay cash at the school office. Thank you.

Fact Sheet for Parents and Caregivers - Explanation of Absences

CEDP promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education.

If your child is sick or absent you are required to notify their school on the first day of absences if at all possible. All explanations to the school must be provided within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence.

Absences can be explained using one of the following methods:

        1.      Online: log the absence directly using SkoolBag App

        2.      Email: the school at holytrinitygranville@parra.catholic.edu.au

        3.      Telephone: the school office on 8633 8500

        4.      Note sent with your child

Where an explanation has not been received within the 7 day timeframe of the explanation has not been accepted, the school will record the absence as unexplained or unjustified on the student’s record. The school will not be able to accept explanations which are not received within the 7 day timeframe.

Justified reasons for student absences may include:

        ·         being sick of having an infectious disease

        ·         having an unavoidable medical appointment

        ·         being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

        ·         exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral

Why do I need to notify the school if my child is absent?

Parents of children aged 6 to 17 years are legally required to ensure their children attend school every day or provide an explanation if they are absent. Notifying the school and providing an explanation for your child’s absence will fulfil this legal responsibility.

The safety and wellbeing of students are highest prioritises for schools. Parents need to know if their child isn’t at school, and schools need to know when and why a child is absent. Notifying the school of your child’s absence helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children at school.

What is your responsibility?

        ·         Ensure your child attends school every day

        ·         Notify the school immediately is your child is absent

        ·         Provide an explanation for any absences within 7 days

        ·         Make sure the school has your correct contact details so that you can receive attendance information about your child
