Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank You!

Over the past week, I have spent a number of days out of the school for various meetings, Professional Learning activities and school related events and as I return this morning, I reflected on just how smoothly our staff keep things ticking along in my absence. I am so blessed to work with such amazingly professional and dedicated individuals which make Tomerong Public School a great place to be. Furthermore, as I listen to other principals talk about the effect high teacher absences and staff shortages are having on student behaviour and school culture, it reminds me how beautifully settled and engaged our students have been this year and continue to be. We’re very lucky!

Assistant Principal, Curriculum & Instruction

Yesterday, I convened a panel for the selection of a new specialised role in our school. Starting in 2023, each school will receive an additional staffing allocation titled Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction. For our school, this means the appointment of an additional Assistant Principal who will focus solely on improving curriculum delivery through delivering high impact professional learning, supporting and mentoring teachers, data analysis and team teaching. This is a really exciting time for our school and I can’t wait to announce the successful candidate once HR run their usual checks and balances and approval is given for the announcement. Watch this space!

School Vandalism

Unfortunately, our little patch of paradise has been the victim of vandalism of late with damage sustained to buildings and equipment. We are working closely with the police and the Department of Education’s Safety and Security directorate to ensure this is not repeated.

A reminder that while the ‘Share Our Space’ initiative allows the community access to the school over school holidays, the school is enclosed land and should not be accessed on weekends or out of school hours on weekdays. If you see unauthorised persons (students, ex-students and community members) on site on weekends please call the school security hotline on 1300 880 021.

Tournament of Minds

We wish our Tournament of Minds team every success this Sunday as they present their critical thinking challenges at the regional tournament at Wollongong University. They have worked really hard over the last 5 weeks to develop their response to the challenge and I know they will be amazing!

District Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to each of our district competitors who proudly represented our school last week. A special congratulations to Ashton, Jye and Isla who qualified for the Regional carnival on Friday 2 September at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra. Great work!

Book Week

It’s almost time! Parents and carers are invited to join us for our Book parade next Wednesday, 24 August, commencing at 9.30am. This year’s Book Week theme is ‘Dreaming with Eye’s Open.’ We can’t wait to see our students dressed up as their favourite book character or superhero.

Have a great week!

At school, I like playing the magnet game and handwriting lessons.

At home, I like to build cubbies from wood.

OFFICE NEWS

Rapid Antigen Test Kits Available

I wish to advise our parents and carers that COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test kits are available from the school upon request. We have a supply of both nasal and Saliva (Lollipop) tests which can be obtained by collecting them from the office in person, or by contacting us on 4443 4376 or by email to tomerong-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and we will arrange to have them sent home with your child.

I would like to remind our parents and carers of the current guidelines:

· If your child tests positive to COVID-19, you will need to advise the school, likewise, if your child is deemed a household contact. School’s are required to record this information.

· Students who test positive to COVID-19 must isolate and not attend school for 7 days and should be symptom free before returning to school.

· Students who are deemed a household contact, may return to school if they are symptom free, but are required to take a rapid antigen test daily. It is strongly encouraged that student household contacts wear a mask.

Thank you for supporting the health and wellbeing of our School Community.
