ANZAC DAY 2020
We would like to thank three of our Music students, Aavi Barker (Year 7), Fletcher Glenn (Year 11) and Ellie Yendell (Year 11), who took the time to record The Last Post that we shared to everyone on ANZAC Day.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to Term 2!
It certainly is a different start to what we are used to! However, it has been lovely for the staff to greet both those students who have returned to the campus and, in a different way, those who continue to work from home.
As you will be aware, the School has strongly encouraged students in Years 11 and 12 to come to school from the start of term and, as there has been a very good response, it is possible to commence the term with face-to-face teaching and learning for these two year groups. Teachers will continue to support our 11s and 12s who are still learning online from home. READ MORE
MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL: CURRICULUM
Dear Parents
Welcome back to Term 2. It is wonderful to have most of the Year 11 and Year 12 students return to normal classes. Our Years 7 to 10 students will continue with online learning with some students working from home and others choosing to work from school. Overall, we will continue to do our best to provide valuable teaching and learning experiences for all our students.
Interim Reports
Interim Reports for students in Years 7 to 10 will be available on Monday 4 May after 4.00pm.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF PRIMARY - MEADOW SPRINGS
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to Term 2, whether you are with us physically or learning at home, I hope everyone has had a decent break. We start the term in unusual circumstances, but as a school, we are trying our best to address the needs of our learners.
As you are aware, students attending campus will be supported in their online learning by teachers and support staff.
They will complete their classwork in year-level blocks due to the increase in numbers, and students learning from home will continue to receive daily lessons for completion. At present, this is the situation for the first three weeks of Term 2. READ MORE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF PRIMARY - HALLS HEAD
I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of our students back to School, whether it be the students who have returned to campus or students who are learning from home.
All students are engaging with the same online learning platform, and we will continue to support our students in any way we can. I would like to acknowledge all of the feedback we have received from parents, thank our staff and families for their immense efforts and dedication, and let our parents know that we prioritise reflecting on how we can accommodate our students in this challenging time.
I hope everyone was able to spend some time with loved ones during our break and look forward to continuing to keep our community connected.
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST - AMY O'BRIEN
Miss Amy O’Brien is Frederick Irwin Anglican School’s new School Psychologist. The purpose of Miss O’Brien’s role is to help improve the mental health and wellbeing of the school on a holistic level, working with staff and students from K-12 across both campuses.
Miss O’Brien will be working to provide information and resources to teaching staff, provide seminars and workshops to parents and students, and conducting individual assessments or counselling.
So far this year, some of the community initiatives that Miss O’Brien has engaged in include providing a group anxiety-management skill session for Year 5 and Year 6 students to help them develop confidence for their school camp, talking at parent information nights for parents of Year 5 and Year 6 to help parents in supporting their children in attending camp, and speaking on the topic of resilience at the first Community Morning Tea for 2020.
Once COVID-19 restrictions are removed, Miss O’Brien is looking forward to working broadly across the school to help improve the wellbeing of students.
In the meantime, Miss O’Brien continues to support the teaching and pastoral care staff at Frederick Irwin through staff consultation; developing training and resources for staff and students, and providing referrals and support to students and parents.
BOOK CLUB
In these unprecedented times we’re all being asked to change the way we work and live. Our tradition of putting books into the hands of kids isn’t going to change, but for Term 2, we're doing things a little differently. For the first time in the history of Scholastic – we will have a Virtual Book Club for Term 2.
Every child will still have the opportunity to access their Book Club catalogue HERE.
GORDON HOUSE MASCOT 2020
During the last week of Term 1, the Gordon House Council ran a fun activity for our Gordon House members – the challenge was to find a Gordon House Mascot for 2020.
Students were encouraged to share a picture of their nomination along with a message about why their mascot would be a good representative of Gordon House, to our Gordon Microsoft Team.
Congratulations to Heather Crisp (white dog) and Charlotte Hunt (chicken), both from Gordon 4, for their winning entries!
A prize was delivered to their houses to enjoy with their families over the Easter break. A big thank you to the Gordon students and staff who entered the competition!
