News from the Principal

Our Year 7 cohort, although small in number, have been an outstanding group of children who have demonstrated solid effort during 2019. They have been together for a long period of time and have made lifelong friendships and relationships during this time. The world can be whatever they work hard to make it be. It takes persistence, accountability, effort and passion to be successful. Continue to learn and continue to challenge yourself even when it’s hard. We look forward to watching you grow into adulthood and become active members of the community.

I would like to acknowledge our small group of consistent volunteers who have supported classroom programs, the school canteen and helped students to read. This support is highly valued by students and staff. I would love to see more volunteers helping our students to reach their goals.

This year’s Governing Council have worked behind the scenes ensuring the schools financial position is strong and that the students are receiving the very best learning environment we can provide. They have been instrumental in numerous facilities upgrades. These have included: toilet upgrades, staff wellbeing outdoor space, external painting and interior carpet laying to name but a few. Their enthusiasm has been excellent and their decision making in the best interest for the staff and students at Long Street.

We would like to farewell Miss Day and Mrs Tregenza. Both will continue their careers in Adelaide. Thankyou for your work.

Merry Christmas.

Student Wellbeing Leader News

And just like that another school year is done!

This year has been full of fun events and memories for both staff and students. We kicked off the year with a very successful family night, grooved the night away with a disco in the gym, raised money for a number of worthy charities and participated in our first ever Colour Run. I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to organise these events and ensure they ran smoothly.

It has been an absolute pleasure to watch all of our students make personal and social growth this year. I wish each and  every one of them every success in 2020 and beyond

The past 4 years at Long Street have been a blast, it is now time for me to move back to Adelaide to continue my career there and begin my little family. Thank you for welcoming me into your community, for your support and your trust.

I hope you all enjoy a relaxing festive season with family and friends.

Merry Christmas!

Senior Leader News

I would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers for their hard work in assisting our teachers to help our students show growth and improvement this year.  Without the support of our caring community members we wouldn’t be able to provide as many opportunities as we do.  If you are wanting to become a volunteer at our site next year please come and see us in the office for more information.

What a year 2019 has been, our students have worked hard to improve in their learning and in their confidence.  I hope everyone has a wonderful break and a joyful Christmas and New Year.  I will see you all again in 2020.

Merry Christmas

Jodie Turpin

What's Happening in ........

....Room 6?

With the end of the year fast approaching the Christmas spirit has truly arrived in Room 6.  We have been using the iPads to research how Christmas is celebrated all over the world and re-creating our favourite Christmas story ‘Twas the night before Christmas. In Room 6 we love arts and crafts! We having been making Christmas ornaments to put on our tree and designing our own reindeer masks using glitter paint and sequins.

It is with regret that we have had to make the hard decision to have our school canteen open for lunch times only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays The canteen must break even or make a profit to be a viable resource. To date the canteen is running at a loss and therefore this cannot continue. This means it will not be open for purchases at recess time on these days. Students wishing to buy snacks at recess on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday can order these with their lunch order or buy at lunch time and save for recess.

A new blue coloured menu has been sent home today.

Lids4Kids

We are excited to announce that we are now a collection point for Lids4Kids, an organisation that collects plastic bottle lids to be recycled and turned into 3D plastic prosthetic arms for kids. More information will roll out over the coming days about what kinds of lids can be recycled. We do ask that they be washed and dried before dropping them into the Long Street front office. Thank you for your participation in this very worthwhile cause.

Next year we hope to have collection boxes set up in the library ready for your pre-sorted lids.
