Staffing and 2023
As we head into the second half of term 3, it is getting to that time where classes and staffing for 2023 is being reviewed. If you know of any families who would like to join Pelican Flat Public School in 2023, please encourage them to make contact with us. We welcome everyone to your school.
We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2023. If your child is starting Kindergarten in 2023 see the office about our transition program. Transitions activities allows the children to visit the school each week and take part in classroom activities, allowing them to become familiar with our school setting and the day-to-day structures of a Kindergarten classroom. It has proven to be a beneficial for students transitioning into school.
Zone Athletics Carnival
Miss McClellan reported back to me how amazing our students were who attended the zone athletics carnival last week carnival. I am so proud of our children’s participation rate at the carnival; this shows a strong set of the values we like our children to exhibit as they were all having a go, representing their school community; encouraging others and hopefully performing their personal best. Well done to every student who attended and thank you Miss McClellan for being there and cheering for our students on the day . As with all of our carnivals there is a competitive side which gives our gifted and talented athletes the opportunity to shine.
Stage 3 Overnight excursion to Bathurst
Stage 3 had the best time at the overnight excursion in week 4. They explored Hill end, did some gold panning, explored the Blue Mountains went of the steepest railway in the world and sung and danced the nights away. They even did a hot lap of the Bathurst 1000 race track (in the bus). We all had a wonderful time and I commend every sing one of our leaders in Stage 3 for their excellent manners, behavior and maturity. I bet they were all very tired when they arrived home. See further in the newsletter for some photos.

COVID-smart measures
From Week 5, Monday 15 August, the following COVID-smart measures will remain in place in our school:
• Students and staff must stay at home if unwell and not return to school until symptom free.
• If a student or staff member is symptomatic, they should take a rapid antigen test (RAT) and isolate until they receive a negative test result.
• Masks continue to be strongly encouraged for all staff, students and school visitors, particularly when indoors and when physical distancing is not possible. Masks continue to be mandatory for all staff working with students at greater risk of severe illness if they were to get COVID-19.
• Household or close contacts who are symptom-free can attend mainstream schools if they receive a negative RAT result every day for 5 school days and wear a mask (staff and high school students) while on site.
• Vaccinations are no longer required for staff. We continue to recommend all staff and eligible students and their families to keep up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations, including getting a booster shot.
• Visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, are able to come to school sites but may be required to wear a mask if in close proximity to students at greater risk of severe illness if they were to get COVID-19. We encourage all parents attending the office wear a mask (provided by the school).
• Natural ventilation and personal hygiene should continue to be encouraged.
If you require extra RATs let us know.
