The Pre-Kindy class had their Letterland Day on Thursday. There was a lot of excitement as students came dressed in their faviourite Letterland costumes to celebrate their alphabet knowledge.
Dear School Families,
What a big year it has been! Here we are already writing the students' year-end reports. It's hard to imagine how we got to this point so quickly. We are, however, so proud of the students for their efforts and achievements, particularly given the challenging time it has been. It's great to look back over the year and see all of the progress that has been made. While we won't be having Speech Night as we usually do, due to COVID-19, we are planning to celebrate the students' achievements in an extra special assembly to be held here at school in the last week of the term. We will send out further information about this event and how we will run it soon.
It was great to see the Pre-Kindy students enjoying their Letterland day. There were lots of happy children who were delighted to come to school dressed up as a letter character. Thank you parents/guardians for your efforts with the students' costumes!
Last week the students participated in some special activities to acknowledge and celebrate that the first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. I've seen lots of lovely colouring pictures as part of their learning in this area with Mrs Darby. The older children have been writing acknowledgement of country statements as part of their learning in Mrs Thompson's class. The students' work is going to be displayed around the school in various areas such as our outdoor classroom, at the entrance of our school and other places. Well done students!
Last week the students also participated in Remembrance Day commemorations here at school. It was an opportunity for them to learn about important events in our country's history and to foster an attitude of respect for those who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy. Remembrance Day also gave us an opportunity to reflect on the great sacrifice that Jesus made for each one of us.
It was great to welcome our new Kindy students to the K-2 classroom last week ahead of 2021. Plans for the new year are well underway and we are looking forward to welcoming not just our Kindy students to our school but children who will join various other grades as well. There will be some changes in the new year to reflect the direction we are taking with our nature-based and Project Based learning approaches. We as a staff have spent extensive time this year planning for our school's exciting future. One of the first things you will notice is that our classes will be moving to different locations in the school. Our Pre-Kindy class will be located where the current K-2 class is. The K-2 class will be moving to the current 3-6 room and the 3-6 class will be moving to the current Pre-Kindy/Creative Arts room. In fact our classrooms will no longer be known, for example, as the K-2 classroom. Rather, they will be given special names to reflect our nature-based approach to learning and the wonderful bush setting we enjoy. We are having some signs made and we will soon be unveiling the new names of rooms. The teachers are working very hard to develop new programs that will further reflect and embed our vision. We look forward to sharing more news about our school's exciting future in due course.
We have planned some year-end activities for the students to participate in over the next few weeks. We will be having a Science Show for the students on Thursday 26 November and you can see further information about this event below. Special thanks to Liam who designed the Science Show flyer.
'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your path' (Proverbs 3:5-6). Let's continue to pray for our school and our school families. May God bless you all.
