Term 2 - Week 7

Principal Report

As you may or may not be aware, Our Principal Mr. Mark Sullivan is taking leave. I will be replacing him as Relieving Principal until he returns at the end of term. I would like to take this opportunity in expressing how excited I am to have this opportunity to work with you all for the rest of this term.

We will be starting our Child Protection lessons soon. The students will be discussing issues around Personal Development, Safety and Body Parts. If you would like your child/ren to not participate, please inform the office.

We have also had to postpone our school athletics carnival a few times recently due to the inclement weather. Stay tuned, we are putting another plan in place for this to go ahead.

A reminder about travel on the bus. When students are dropped off in the morning they have to come directly into the front gate. They are not allowed to go to the shops for food before they come into school. We also have a breakfast club they can attend if they are hungry.

All visitors must report to the school office upon arrival at the school to sign in. Furthermore, if you would like to speak with a teacher, see the office staff who can forward this on to the teacher, so they can arrange a time for a meeting.

Finally, I look forward to a wonderful working relationship with everyone in our school community. My door is always open if you have anything you would like to discuss.

Attendance

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record. As part of school protocol you will be contacted by a staff member after two days of absence without explanation.

PSSA Girls Basketball Knockout Competition

On Friday 10 June, 7 of our 5/6 girls went and participated in the PSSA Girls Basketball Knockout Competition. The game was played at the Goulburn Basketball Stadium against Goulburn South Public School. Although the girls didn’t secure the win they were hoping for, they all put in a tremendous amount of effort and had a lot of fun.

Weeks 6 & 7

PBL Value Of The Week

Rocky Hill War Memorial & Museum Excursion

K-6 Deakin were lucky enough to attend an excursion at the Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum this week. Students were able to view priceless artefacts and learn about Goulburn’s connection to both World Wars. They were also brave enough to ascend the 80 stairs of the War Memorial tower to take in the breathtaking view.

Isabella: “The clothes in the cottage rooms looked really cool”

Ben: “Going up in the tower to look at the view was awesome!”

Kaiden: “My favourite room was the gun room because it showed how old they were. There was a sword that was nearly 200 years old!”

Music In K-6 Cole

In K-6 Cole our music program has begun this term. The children are learning about music appreciation and using untuned percussion to create a rhythm. We're even learning how to create our own musical compositions! Lot's of concentration on these faces.
