Principal's Report

Tuesday 15th November 2022

Hello Everyone,

Our current profit from the fete is - $40, 225.80. Wow!! Best fete EVER.

THANK YOU everybody. What an amazing day it was on Saturday. The sense of community and teamwork was more than we could hope for. Thank you for the time and effort you all put in to make sure that our fete was successful and that we raised enough money to help us achieve some dreams. Once I have met with FOS and School Council, I will let you know exactly how we are spending this money.

As well as a special thanks to the parents and helpers, I'd also like to acknowledge our wonderful FOS team who have planned this event for more than a year and worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition; to our sponsors who gave so generously; and to the students and staff who helped as well. The children are still buzzing and excited about it all.

It was great to see so many past students and parents come back to the school to say hello and to support us. The alumni of MMPS will always hold a special place at the school.

I’d also like to acknowledge our Grade 5/6 students who ran Enterprise Alley. They designed, developed, and marketed their own goods for sale and then spent two hours running their own stalls. They learnt so much from the experience. Our Grade 5/6 students raised $1225. Our Grade 5 boys designed and created the signposts in the school and then manned the Ambassadors table to welcome visitors to the school. Our senior students represented us beautifully.

I know that many of you will be exhausted after putting in so much effort (which is why we have the fete every two years), but I hope that you will all celebrate what has been achieved through hard work and commitment to the school.

I could not be prouder to be a part of this wonderful Mount Macedon Primary School community.

There will be more specific news from FOS over the coming weeks, as we finalise the fete.

I just want to take a moment to thank one of our students – Thomas Turner in Grade 6, who found and handed in a large sum of money that must have been dropped from one of the stalls. Well done on your integrity and honesty Thomas!!

This week we continue to be busy. On Wednesday night we have the Parent Information night for 2023 Foundation parents. On Thursday night we have the Foundation BBQ and grade 1/2 BBQ and sleepover. On Friday we have our second Foundation 2023 transition day.

Term four is always super busy, and exciting. Let’s enjoy the last few weeks of this year!

Have a lovely week.

Kind Regards,

Trish

MMPS Fete Sponsors

Out MMPS Spring Fete 2022 was a huge success, and we couldn't have done it without the help of our incredibly dedicated and hard working FOS group, parents, teachers, staff, students and the wonderful community we are a part of, so thank you! We would also like to say thank you to our Fete Sponsors for 2022. Their help and support was very much appreciated, as they were  instrumental in helping raise so much for our school.  We would like to acknowledge the generosity of the local businesses below to help make our fete our biggest yet.

With this in mind, we have been working with our students in class to prepare and support them through this period of change. Below are some great resources on how you can help students cope with big life changes in order to support their mental and emotional well being.

MMPS Update by School Reporter Eliza

Hello everyone,

The Mount Macedon Primary school fete has passed. It was a fun and exciting event. The fete hasn't happened for four years, so this was a pretty special occasion.

The school raised a massive $40 000. The funds will go towards providing some special things for the school. Congratulations and thank you to all of the families, staff and others that helped to prepare for, run and clean up. It was a great effort and something that could not be done without all of you.

There were also a number of other roles taken by students on the day. The Grade 5’s from Mrs Smith’s class became Fete ambassadors for the day by greeting, welcoming and directing people who came through the front gates.

The Grade 5/6 class set up stalls to help raise money for the fete. They raised around $1000. It was very fun and exciting, learning to run and manage our own stall and even a small business. It was very successful because nearly every business sold out.

The Fete was a great day and very fun. If you came along, thank you, and an especially big thank you to those who made the day such a great success.  We're all looking forward to the next one in a couple years time.

Digital Technology at MMPS

As our Foundation students are getting closer to, well, not being Foundation students anymore, I thought we would start learning some skills they will need for Grade 1, so it was time for the exciting world of.... typing!

Once we got over the fact that "keyboards are weird and the keys are all in the wrong place" students had a ball learning how to type the world-famous saying "Daniel is smelly" (no, really, they actually love it... the typing, not the smelly Daniel)

It was a great little experiment and we learnt all about keys, QWERTY and finger placement.

It was great to see how quickly (and excitedly) our junior students picked it up.

Next year I will focus more on these ICT skills with our junior students in the first Term to make life easier for them (and me) in later years.

Grade 4/5 Update

Last week, the Grade 4/5's have been researching historical events and how they have shaped the nation. This week they completed and presented their newspapers which contained the stories of 3 historical events. Below is a photo of Pasco with his newsletter article.

The Grade 4/'s also participated in Orienteering along with the Grade 5/6's at Tony Clark Reserve. This event was previously rescheduled due to rain, and although the day had a little bit of drizzle, it stayed dry enough for everyone to have fun.

STEM Update

Some of our classes are learning about life in the oceans and sustainability. During their STEM lessons last week, the students constructed a mock oil spill, then tested different materials and absorbents to clean up the oil spill to see which one was the most effective. From the majority of the experiments, it was determined that paper towel and a sponge were the most effective and absorbent. The students also learned that if we are going to use natural resources such as oil for fuel and power, then we need to respect the resource and ensure that we look after our environment to protect it from any damage or spills.

Hats in Term 4

Just a reminder to ensure that students have their hats to wear at school during recess and lunchtimes, as well as any other outdoor activities they may be participating in. It is important that we are all being sun smart and ensuring our children are protected from the harmful UV light that is at it's highest peak during the months of August to April, where UV index levels regularly reach 3 or above. Please also remember to name your children's hats as they quite often are lost, misplaced or left in the playground and it is handy to know who the hat belongs to! The weather is now warming up and spotted on the grounds were some of our students wearing their hats today.

COMMUNITY NEWS

'Madagascar'

'Madagascar' is the haunting story of a mysterious disappearance that changes three lives forever. At 3 different periods in time, 3 people find themselves alone, in the same hotel room overlooking the Spanish Steps in Rome.

They each tell their individual story of how and why they are here. Their relationship to each other, what this room means to them, and why they have been called to it slowly reveal themselves. Their stories spill out, weave back and forth—each contradicting, clarifying, deepening what the others say—becoming strands of one gripping and disquieting tale.
