St Mary's Bulletin

Term 1 - Week 7 (18 March, 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Leadership

We set a positive example in the classroom, playground and community.

St Joseph’s Day

Tomorrow, March 19th we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph in the Catholic Church.  Saint Joseph was the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus. All we know about Joseph comes from the accounts of the nativity in the New Testament.  He was a tradesman, commonly he is said to have been a carpenter, but it's possible he may have been a stone worker. He was said to have been a direct descendent of David, the great king of Israel.  Since Joseph is not mentioned in any accounts of Jesus' public life, his crucifixion, or resurrection, it is thought that Joseph died before Jesus started preaching.  St Mary’s School was originally called St Joseph’s.  The Year ¾ class led the school in a wonderful (virtual) liturgy this morning to celebrate and honour the feast of St Joseph.

Harmony Day

On Monday, 21 March we celebrate Harmony Day across Australia.  The day celebrates the diversity we have in Australia and aims to foster inclusiveness, respect and the idea that people of all different cultures can make a valuable contribution to society.  The Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.  Teachers will acknowledge Harmony Day in their classes.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Parent-Teacher Interviews commence on Monday for all families in Pre-primary to Year Six and will run for two weeks.  This is an opportunity for parents and teachers to set learning goals together for the students.  Kindy parent-teacher interviews will take place in Term Three.

Assembly - Week Nine

Due to the current restrictions, the Week Nine Assembly will be posted on to the St Mary’s School Facebook page.  Certificates will be presented in classrooms and a photo will be emailed home to the recipient’s family.

Environmental Ministry

The Environmental Ministry are raising money for the Science Worm Farm. They have organised a dress up day on Wednesday 30 March (Week 9). All classes are asked to bring a gold coin donation to dress up as their favourite animal. (Poster will be shared next week). Thank you for your support from Elsie Swarts and Oscar Davis (Environmental Ministry)

Self-Reporting Portal

It is vitally important that parents and caregivers inform the school if their child tests positive for COVID-19.

To support our planning for your child’s classroom attendance, please continue to notify St Mary’s School if your child returns a negative PCR/ RAT result, after:

· being identified as a close contact (Day 1 test to return to school as an asymptomatic close contact), and/or

· being identified as a household close contact (Day 7 test to conclude quarantine).

To help streamline this process a COVID-19 Self-reporting Form for Students and Staff members has been developed by Catholic Education WA (CEWA). Parents and caregivers can now inform the school of their child’s positive or negative COVID result via this LINK. The information will go directly to the Principal, prompting our COVID response.

The link is also available on Skoolbag (as a tile) and on the St Mary’s School website (Website Link)

Please do not underestimate the importance of informing St Mary’s School of a positive COVID case. Your actions will ensure the risk to others is minimised and that we do our very best to limit the spread of the virus across our community.

Pupil Free Day

A reminder that next Friday, 25 March is a Pupil Free Day for St Mary’s School.  Staff will be joining St Joseph’s Southern Cross for a virtual Professional Learning Opportunity on Mathematics.

The Newsletter next week will go out on Thursday afternoon.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.
