Welcome to week 6, Term 4.
What another fun and busy past two weeks we have had here at Wyong Public. It is wonderful to see students all still so focused and on task, keep going we are almost there.
The past two weeks have been busy as we prepare to finish Term 4, from more painting being done around the school to report writing getting under way.
Last week saw our wonderful year 5 students participate in a Leadership day. They participated in a range of activities, including collaborative team building activities, STEM projects and also were able to listen to some motivational talks from our current 2020 leaders. Thank you to Mrs Calverley for co-ordinating this.
We as a school also marked Remembrance Day with a whole school assembly underneath the COLA on Wednesday the 11th November at 11 AM. Our wonderful choir performed a beautiful rendition of ‘The Last Post’ and as a school we then observed a minute’s silence to reflect on all the Diggers that lost their lives fighting for our country and our freedom. Thank you to all of our students for making beautiful paper poppies as well, they are now in our garden for all to enjoy. Well done to all of our students, for displaying Respect, Excellence and Responsibility throughout such a significant assembly.
Meanwhile, myself and the School Captains attended a service at Wyong RSL and laid a wreath in honour of those that had fallen.
Also, over the past fortnight, we had the pleasure of watching our wonderful Children’s University participants graduate. Whilst the graduation ceremony looked a little different this year, it was great to see the students being acknowledged for their participation in learning experiences and activities outside of the classroom. Well done, and thank you for your participation.
On the topic of students being acknowledged for their hard work, a huge congratulations goes out to the winners and runners up from the Public Speaking competition held over the past few weeks. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of a room full of people and speak, you all should be very proud of yourselves.
On Thursday the 12th we had the pleasure of meeting some of our new 2021 Kindergarten students as they attended our Leap into Learning school transition program. Was lovely to see some new faces and for the most part, no tears from the students or parents. We can’t wait for you to join our school next year.
On the other end of the spectrum, some of our year 6 students also had the chance to get a taste for high school with orientation of Wyong High School. Exciting times ahead for our year 6 students, you will be missed.
Just a few reminders also, the year 6 farewell is coming up on Thursday the 10th December, at Kooindah Waters. Whilst this might look a little different to other years, we are grateful that we can still hold some sort of gathering to mark the end of an era for these students. Please remember the $25 and the permission note must be brought back into school before 3 PM Monday the 23rd November, 2020. No late payments will be accepted and we would hate for you to miss out.
In addition to this, please note that all students currently in year 4 & 5 will have the opportunity to attend our Canberra excursion in 2021. A deposit of $70 is due by Monday the 30th November, if you would like your child to attend, we need definite numbers by this date so please don’t delay.
Lastly, our presentation day this year will be held on Monday the 7th December for Infants and Tuesday the 8th December for Primary students. This is a very exciting day for students and parents alike, and I know how much you all like to come along and hear all the wonderful things about your children. However, unfortunately due to Department COVID guidelines we are not permitted to have parents or caregivers on the school grounds.
I understand that this is disappointing and we will do all that we can to provide footage and photos where possible, thank you for your understanding.
