The Opportunity of Change

Things change and now, with the end of the year, we have one of the regular changes of life. Some children, and even some teachers, will be changing schools, others changing levels.  There are all sorts of reactions to change: from excitement at the new to fear of the unknown. For our children, change is the stuff of life.

But what about us adults? What can it mean to us?  The English saint, John Henry Newman, said “To grow is to change and to be perfect is to have changed often”. Some people want change for the sake of change, others don’t want any at any cost yet change offers us possibility: we can become better people, or we can become worse. We can be open to life or we can close down on life. God’s desire for us is to fully alive, according to the style of our unique personality.  When a change comes upon us, instead of just going with the flow, or reacting against it, we can stop and ask ourselves, how can I become more full of life in this new situation.  Pray for God’s spirit to guide your imagination to see the different scenarios and when you choose your response, let the Spirit be the wind beneath your wings.

Loving Father, give us the wisdom, joy and creativity of your Spirit as when encounter the changes of life.  With Jesus our brother, at our side, may we face all situations confident in your love.  We ask this in his name, confident that you will hear us.

From the Principal

As I reflect on the year that has now gone by, I am amazed at what has happened and how we have had a successful year. As I recall, the commencement of the year was a delayed start due to the impacts of COVID-19, and the subsequent restrictions that followed for Terms Two and Three limited the connectedness between the school and the community. We have started to rebuild connection, and last week’s Christmas Concert was a wonderful celebration for our community that welcomed all the gather. I look forward to maintaining this community in the New Year.

I wish everyone joy and blessings this Christmas and look forward to seeing everyone return safely in 2023.

Merry Christmas!

To all of the St Joseph’s Wandal community, I wish you all a happy and holy Christmas break. Hopefully, this time will afford you all the opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones. It has been a pleasure working in partnership with you all this year to provide the very best educational environment we can for your children.

Lying upon the straw of Bethlehem, Jesus does not only preach humility but give a perfect example of obedience and charity. 1897 Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop

Prayer Reflection

What are some things that you look forward to? How do you prepare for them? How much do you look forward to Christmas? Over the next four weeks how can we prepare for Christmas? Jesus asks us to watch out in Advent so that we can prepare for his coming. How can we ‘watch out’?

Year 6 Graduation Celebration Friday 2 December

Please join us in the Undercover Area at 8.35am for our final prayer celebration of the year led by Year Six. At the end of this prayer celebration, Year Six students will receive their Graduation Certificates. Farewell to the 2022 Year Six class who have led our school community very well this year. Our best wishes to each of you as you move onto secondary school.

The Nativity Video

I encourage you to view this great You Tube resource, which helps to dispel some of the myths about the birth of Jesus. In classes, students watched this You Tube clip before beginning an exegesis of the Biblical text on two infancy narratives of the birth of Jesus. Both the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew share a recount of the birth of Jesus. Retooning The Nativity

    Thank you Parents and Caregivers,

Wow!  Another academic year is almost over!  I would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all of you.

Thank you for having confidence in us, allowing us to help your children grow as learners and as humans.

Thank you for your unfailing support - for the teams you coached, for the events you attended and for the posts you liked.

Thank you for the homework you supervised, the learning goals you helped us to monitor and the successes you helped us celebrate.

Thank you.  For those of you who are about to end your association with us, don’t be a stranger.  For those of you continuing with us in 2023, let’s do this all again!

Thank you to our teachers and support staff.

The 2022 year is almost over, but before it is, I would like to thank all of the amazing staff here at Wandal who have done such an outstanding job.

Thanks to the teachers and other members of the leadership team for the care, planning, dedication, humour and excellence you have shown throughout this busy year.

Thank you to the support staff (teacher assistants, secretaries, library and IT staff, tuckshop, cleaners, grounds people and everyone else who I have accidentally forgotten!  Thank you for all of the things, big and small, that have helped to make Wandal fabulous.

I wish those of you not continuing with us well, and look forward to all that 2023 will bring for each of us.

    Merry Christmas!

Finally, to the amazing students here at St Joseph’s Wandal.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, the way you worked hard each day, the way you cared for each other and the way you accepted the challenges that 2022 brought your way.

For those of you leaving us, goodbye and good luck.  Enjoy your new adventures!

    Yarning with Mrs Semple

On Thursday, Year 6 Indigenous Students were presented with a Certificate of Cultural Leadership.

Ivy-Jane, Lakani-Rose, Saxon and Paul have all displayed leadership qualities when it comes to being proud of their culture, their connection to Country and participating in school community events. They were all honoured and presented with their certificates of Cultural Leadership and a small gift from the Indigenous Education Support Team.

To wish students the very best for highschool, Year Four and Five students led the blessing ceremony, by reading the “Australian Blessing” by Elizabeth Pike.

We all enjoyed afternoon tea and had a yarn about what it takes to be a good leader.  Year 6 students shared their advice and gave the emerging leaders a chance to ask questions.

The future of cultural connection is in great hands at St Joseph’s.
