Edition Twenty - 12th December 2018

End of Year Concert

Our End of Year Concert was held last Wednesday evening at Centennial Park. Congratulations to the students and staff for all their hard work in preparation for the evening. It was a fantastic night with many highlights. I think the Pre Primary students set the standard with their bright costumes and great singing and it was capped off with an excellent Year 6 item at the end. Well done to all.

It was also a night to acknowledge individual students for their efforts throughout the year with many book prizes awarded. Thank you to the P&C for sponsoring the book prizes. The School Board also acknowledged the NAIDOC Week Committee for their work in organising such a wonderful week of activities during the year. Thank you to everyone who came and shared the night with us.

Assembly
Our last Assembly for the year will be held on Thursday 13th December at 1:40pm. There are quite a few Principal’s Awards, Circle of Life badges and Reading badges to hand out. This will also be an opportunity to wish our Year 6 students all the best for their future years at high school.

Year 6 Graduation
Year 6 students have a formal ceremony to acknowledge their graduation from primary school and their move to secondary school yesterday. It was an excellent opportunity to celebrate individuals’ efforts with the book awards. The awards are sponsored by many businesses and individuals throughout the community and we thank them very much for their contribution. The Year 6 students also enjoyed their Dinner Dance that night which was a great way to reflect upon their time at O’Connor PS and celebrate with their class mates. I would like to wish them all the best for the future.

2018 School Year
It has been a very busy year with many highlights to reflect upon. I would like to thank all the staff and community members for their efforts throughout the year to make O’Connor PS such a welcoming and supportive environment for all. Our focus on the FAIR values is now well entrenched and we are seeing the results in how students interact and support each other. I know many are now tired and are looking forward to the Christmas break, but it won’t be long before we are back here to start it all over again. I am sure we will be all prepared and ready to meet and greet new families and welcome back all others. In the meantime, I know I will be putting my feet up for a while to spend time with family and friends over the  festive season.

I must also acknowledge teachers who are moving on at the end of the year and thank them for their contribution to the school. Thank you to Miss McLean, Miss Smith, Mrs Sturgeon, Miss Dwyer, Miss Thorpe, Miss Palmer, Miss Deakin, Miss Fraser, Miss Elliot, Ms Dooley, Mrs Scuderi, Ms Dobson and Ms Burston.  Some are taking maternity leave and we shall see them back here at some stage.

Our staffing is complete for next year and we are excited with many activities already in place.  The office is open from Tuesday 29th January with students returning on Monday 4th February 2019. Please stay safe over the long break and enjoy time with family and friends. See you in 2019 to continue our great work at O’Connor PS.

Award Winners

2019 Student Leaders

At the End of Year Concert, the 2019 student leaders were announced. Congratulations to the successful nominees who have been voted in by their peers and the staff. We are looking forward to seeing them develop as leaders in next year and be excellent role models for all others. Special congratulations to Mitchell Hole and Lilly Kelly who are our 2019 Head Boy and Head Girl. We are looking forward to their efforts representing the school next year. I would also like to congratulate all   nominees, even if they were not successful. Just nominating is courageous in itself and they can all be very proud of putting their name forward. I am sure there will be further opportunities in future years for all of them.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop is run by volunteer members of the P&C. It is normally open on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday afternoon. However, at the beginning of next year they will also be opening on Friday 1st February to allow parents to purchase uniforms before the students go back to school. This is usually an extremely busy day and, as such, any very large orders on the day will be filled after the shop has closed and parents will be contacted when they are available to be picked up.
