Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 10!

How quickly has this term flown? With only two weeks left we are not slowing down! This week we have a Year 6 Fundraising Disco on Wednesday 29th March, our Harmony Week event on Thursday 30th March and Cross-Country Friday 31st March. Next Week we have the school Anzac Ceremony on Wednesday 5th April and Thursday 6th April we’re holding our Celebration Assembly, Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser and Easter Hat Parade.

Make My Day

Last Friday I was lucky enough to have a visit from Kaia from K/1P. Kaia was very excited to share with me her well written sentence. Well done, Kaia!

Swansea Anzac Day Event

The Swansea RSL Sub-Branch will hold a commemoration march and service on Tuesday the 25th of April. The march will commence at 11am from the front of the library near McDonalds and proceed to the Swansea and Community War Memorial at the RSL where a short service will be conducted. An invitation has been extended to our students to march and attend the service at the memorial. We ask that our students meet with school staff in the McDonald’s carpark at 10.40. Students are to wear full school uniform.

This will be the last Newsletter for Term 1. Next week we will issue a Photo Gallery at the end of the week to include all the upcoming events.

I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work that has been completed this term. I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 2 after we all have a very well-earned break. Please have a fun and relaxing holiday and stay safe. For students Term 2 commences on Wednesday 26th April but we will see our student at the Anzac March on Tuesday 25th April.

Hippity hop, hippity hop here comes... "The Easter Hat Parade'! This year our Easter extravaganza will be held on Thursday 6th April 2023. No need to rush out and buy things to make your child’s Easter hat. This year the students are getting together with their buddy class to make their Easter hats, with resources provided by the school. More information will be coming out soon, so please save the date and don’t miss out on this great occasion.

Grow Your Mind

As we near the end of our first term and head into the school holidays,

it is important to use our Grow Your Mind animals  to be the best we can be and take care of each other.

This fortnight is the ELEPHANT who helps us remember what we have learnt.  To flourish we need to continue learning something new everyday, take time to breath and move our bodies!

Wellbeing

Review on TED Talks on managing anxiety.

Anxiety awareness expert shares her honest down to earth experiences of growing up with anxiety. Parent with 10-year-old.

I find her advice confronting and comforting at the same time – don’t be an overly protective parent will help my child cultivate confidence and resilience as they face challenges and uncertainty. Parent with 6-year-old daughter.

I don’t agree that kids today need to learn to take risks and parent need to stop jumping and rescuing them from difficult situations. I would want my parent to help if I was feeling anxious and stressed. Parent with 11-year-old daughter.

Band Update Week 10

What a great term we have had in band! The improvement that each group has achieved is amazing, all the band staff are excited for the rest of the year with such a great start already!

Senior band will be preforming at the Celebration assembly next Thursday morning, 6th April. They will need to wear band shirts on this day.

Changes to rehearsal week 11 - NEXT week! (This week is as normal!)

Junior band - Thursday morning only - No Tuesday rehearsal

Senior Band - Wednesday morning only - Friday is Holidays!

Senior band will be required to help set up for Celebration assembly at 8.55am on Thursday morning week 11.

There are many junior band members who are regularly asking to switch between instruments. This is 100% ok, though we need parent contact through email to confirm this please as the instrument needs to be available and also a change of tutor can take a few weeks to organize. It is not recommended that this occurs multiple times for one student each term, it is important to have conversations with your child regarding the reason for the suggested change. it takes patience and persistence to learn an instrument and every child learns at their own pace, this is a concept supported by all the music staff at school.

Please send your child to rehearsals with a display folder each week. Rehearsal and tutor days are as follows:

Junior Band - Tuesday and Thursday, 8.15am- 9am

Senior band - Wednesday and Friday, 8am - 9am

Week 10 Friday morning rehearsal will run as normal with cross country, senior band will also perform the national anthem and school at assembly as normal that afternoon. (weather pending as usual!)

Thank you for your patience with tutors working around NAPLAN the past two weeks and also when tutors have been away sick.
