Term 3, Week 1

Principal Report

A huge welcome back to Term 3! I trust and hope that you have all had a fantastic break and that you are refreshed and rested to begin the term.

This is a quick note to inform you of a few teaching changes that we have had to make for Term 3.

Mr Mark Sullivan will be continuing his leave and I will continue to replace him as Relieving Principal for Term 3. Due to this, there have been other changes that have been made to ensure the smooth running of our school.

Mrs Linda McDade will be taking 1/2 Belmore whilst Mrs Hall is on leave. She will also be the relieving K-2 Assistant Principal. Mrs Sam Smith will be the relieving 3-6 Assistant Principal. Ms Amy Roberson will be the relieving Assistant Principal for the Support Unit. Ms Elise Thornthwaite will be the teacher for 4/5 Poidevin. I am sure you will all welcome these people into their new roles within the school.

We will be starting our Child Protection lessons this term. It is an important part of our curriculum and the students will be discussing issues around Personal Development, Safety and Body Parts. If you would like your child/ren to not participate, please inform the office.

We have our District Athletics Carnival coming up on July 28. We wish all of our students the very best in their respective competitions. Good luck, I know you will all do your best!

NAIDOC week was held this week. This was a lovely opportunity to showcase our First Nations students and for them to be proud of their culture by sharing it with our school. We had a range of activities, ranging from a yarning circle where a story was told, traditional indigenous games being played, tasting some ‘bush tucker’ food and traditional artwork. All of our students thoroughly enjoyed the week and were very excited to share their experiences.

The Life Education van rolled into the school this week and Healthy Harold dropped by to share his insights into being healthy. A big thank you to Kial Malone for coming in and sharing his expertise with us. The students all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were very pleased to see Harold!

The school has also sent out the current guidelines of Covid-19 and the appropriate measures that we need to take. Please read those carefully.

Lastly, lets have a fantastic term where lots of learning takes place. My door is always open.

Attendance

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record. As part of school protocol you will be contacted by a staff member after two days of absence without explanation.

Confusion With Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.

National Consistent Collection Of Data

Dear Parents and Carers

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is a process that all schools must complete on an annual basis. It is designed to count the number of students who receive additional adjustments or "help" at school because of a disability. This national data collection helps federal and state governments plan for the needs of students with disability. It is also the way that schools seek and receive funding to support the learning needs of their students.

Who is included in the data collection?

To include a student in the NCCD collection, schools must consider some key questions:

1. Is the student receiving adjustments to assist them with their ability to participate in schooling on the same basis as their peers?

2. Does the student meet the NCCD's broad definition of disability?

3. Has this school discussed the adjustments(help) with the student and/or parent/carer/ guardian?

4. Does the school have documentation (assessments, medical reports or other paperwork) about the student's functional needs, the adjustments (help) that they provided and how the student progressed overtime?

Where the school decides that the four steps above are in place (i.e. the student meets the NCCD criteria), the school then decides the best disability category and how much help (adjustment level) that the student is provided with.

What happens to the data? Is it confidential?

All schools must complete the NCCD. Each school is required to verify and submit data about students with disabilities in their school during August of each year. The privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is respected and handled as per the school's Privacy Policy and Collection Notice. Please refer to your schools' policies for further information.

Do schools require active consent from parents to include students in NCCD?

Amendments were made to the Australian Education Act 2013 and subsequent regulations. As such, schools do not require parents/carers/guardians to provide active consent for students to be included in the NCCD nor is there an option for parents/carers/guardians to request their child not be included (e.g. an opt-out option.)

Where can I access more information? Please contact us if you have further questions about the NCCD. Additionally, the following link to the national NCCD Portal may be helpful https://www.nccd.edu.au/

Kindergarten Visit Healthy Harold

Kindergarten students were a buzz with excitement, as they visited the Healthy Harold van for the first time.

The students joined Healthy Harold to learn about hygiene, healthy foods, safety and the benefits of physical activity & sleep. Explore personal hygiene, healthy food choices, the benefits of physical activity and sleep and ways to keep safe at home, school and in the community.

The lesson focused on students’ ability to recognise the importance of taking care of their bodies and supported them to manage unsafe behaviours at home, school and in the community. Learning outcomes include;

  • The importance of personal hygiene.
  • Choosing foods for a healthy balanced diet.
  • Benefits of physical activity and sleep.
  • Ways to keep safe at home, school and in the community.

Meeting Healthy Harold was also a highlight for all the students.

Book Week Parade - Save The Date

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character.

Our Book Week Parade this year will be held on Thursday 25 August. Save the date and more information regarding the Book Week Parade will be sent home soon.

Book Club

Book Club catalogues issue 5 will be  been sent home this week.

Scholastic are giving away a FREE book with issue 5 to help celebrate and spread the love reading in schools. See below for the free book offer.
