MRS GOVE WILL BE TAKING LEAVE IN 2023 AND TERM 1 OF 2024

After 16 years of teaching at Dimboola Primary School, Mrs Gove will be taking leave for next year and term one of 2024. Our school will miss her expertise and experience during her leave. Sandra has had a huge impact on the students at Dimboola Primary School with her commonsense, no-nonsense approach and her multitude of hats that she has worn. Mrs Gove has overseen the literacy and numeracy instruction at the school in her role as Learning Specialist. Mrs Gove has taught 5/6, 4/5/6, 3/4, Reading Recovery and undertaken tutoring. I know that the school will miss her during her leave. We will miss her sage advice, leadership and friendship. Have a wonderful time Mrs Gove.

MR GEARY RESIGNING

Mr Geary, the man with the odd socks and bubbly personality will be resigning from Dimboola Primary School at the end of this year. Mr Geary has worked in our school as an education support staff member since 2011. He has performed the role of welfare support, Quicksmart tutor and overseen first aid. He was a person who students felt they could go to if they needed to talk with someone. Mr Geary was quick with a quip to lift the mood of the team. Pat, and his wife Lynne, will be relocating to Portland. We wish them well in the next stage of their lives.

STAFFING UPDATES

I am pleased to say that we have been successful in recruiting staff for next year with people being appointed to all vacant positions. Announcements of class teachers and grades will be made on Tuesday 13th December. This time is filled with excitement as students learn their new classmates and who their teacher/s will be for the following year.

VOLUNTARY PARENT PAYMENT POLICY

School council met and ratified to keep the parent payments at $125 for 2023. This represents tremendous value for education at Dimboola Primary School, with students attending having all their stationery supplies, computers and photocopying provided for the year. While this is a voluntary payment, I request payment to allow our school to function without having to penny pinch. I thank parents/carers for their continued support of our school moving forward. A letter will be sent home to all families this week. A copy of the policy is also available on our website.

SWIMMING PROGRAM

I am pleased that the swimming program has commenced following a slight delay due to the pool not being ready. Students have been grouped according to ability and are working with instructors to develop their water proficiency. Mrs Lees has implemented a few initiatives this year which seem to be working well. These include putting in temporary lane ropes to allow students and teachers with opportunities for swimming without accidentally bumping into other groups during their activity and hiring some Austswim trained instructors.

The 3 – 6 students will meet today to determine which events they compete in for the swimming carnival on Friday 9th December. The program will be sent out in due course. For your information the swimming commences at 10:00 and should conclude by 3:00 at the Dimboola Swimming Pool.

I am on the lookout for some volunteers to assist with the running of the carnival. Positions requiring to be filled including marshals, finish officials, a timer, a barbeque cooker and people to assist in the junior races at the shallow end of the pool. If you are available to assist, please contact me at your earliest convenience at school on 5389 1270.
