Warragamba Public School

Keeping in Touch-Term 1, Week 3

From Mr Kusa

Dear Parents and Carers,

The students and staff at Warragamba Public School have started off on a positive note. I can comfortably say there is a real buzz across the school, as the teachers and students learn about one another in preparation for the 2023 learning journey ahead. Thank you all for stepping beyond the gate and coming on to our school grounds to pick up your kids, it’s great to finally have community back.

Earlier this week we welcomed and publicly recognised out Sports House Captains and Vice Captains for 2023. Congratulations to the following students:

Staff have also had their heads deep in learning during the two Staff Development Days and also this week’s Professional Learning. From new curriculum, to profiling along with individualised planning and programming, it’s set to be a fun and engaging year of learning here at Warragamba PS!

Sincere thanks also go out to the Warragamba parents and carers for their understanding in transitioning to the limited way we now use class Dojo. For the safety and security of our kids, I appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Please be sure to come down as a spectator for the annual swimming carnival this Friday. I’d like to thank in advance Mrs Merrick for her time and organisation for this event. I am sure the kids will have a ball, cheering on their mates and bellowing out their favourite war cry.

Whilst walking around our school grounds, our Grounds Assistant has been busy transforming areas around our school. Take a look below at the before and after shots! It’s made our school an even better place to be.

Please keep free the following dates in the family calendar. More details to come:

28th February- Meet the teacher

21st March- 3 Way Goal Setting

On Friday 17 March at 2:00pm we will be having our first P&C meeting for 2023 in the school staff room. Please join us! We welcome all parents & carers to attend and learn about the wonderful things that are happening across the school year. There is no expectation to take on an official role, any opportunity to expand our amazing group of contributors and volunteers would be fantastic! We really hope to see you there!

We are very lucky to have two experienced professionals working within our school as Assistant Principal’s Curriculum and Instruction. Miss Allard and Mrs McGinnes are excited to take us on quite the learning journey. Enjoy the introduction below.

 Take care, be well

Lloyd Kusa.

New look merits

At Warragamba Public School, students are rewarded for their positive behaviour when they are being safe, being respectful, doing their best when learning and using great social skills. This year, you will notice a change in the merits being given to students. The classroom merits are now white, the assembly merits are blue and the Principal merits are yellow. The system remains the same and all previous merits in various colours are still valid for trading. Through out the day students will also be recognised for displaying our school values by being handed a 'Warra Wow', we are in the process of refining how these can be utilised or traded in on a tierd reward system-watch this space!

5 Merits = Bronze

25 Merits = 5 Bronze = Silver

50 Merits = 10 Bronze = 2 Silver = Gold

100 Merits = 20 Bronze = 4 Silver = 2 Gold = Medallion

Merit Awards

Check out these before and after shots, thanks Mrs Smith!

First of all, what is an APCI?

An Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) is a newly created permanent position within the Department of Education for all schools with a focus on literacy and numeracy. APCIs support strong instructional leadership models in schools, coordinate professional learning for teachers, monitor student outcomes, and support families to be key partners in student learning. Warragamba Public School is lucky to have two APCIs, Miss Belinda Allard and Mrs Amy McGinnes.

Miss Allard

Hello Warragamba! My name is Miss Allard and I have been teaching for 2 decades and a bit (I don’t want to give my age away just yet!). I have taught in similar school communities to Warragamba and my last appointment was at one of the largest schools in NSW, with a student population of around 1500. I am looking forward to returning to a smaller school community and learning a bit about each and every one of you as the year progresses. Not only do I have a passion for helping every child reach their potential in literacy and numeracy, but I am also very passionate about sport. I am fortunate to hold coaching roles in girls cricket at Macarthur, Sydney South West and NSW PSSA levels. Outside of school, I love spending time with family and friends, travelling and watching as much sport as possible. I know this will be controversial, but I am a massive Collingwood supporter in the AFL and netball. I do love watching the State of Origin as a one eyed Blues supporter. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and working closely with the students, staff and community.

Mrs McGinnes

Thank you for having me be part of the Warragamba community! My name is Amy McGinnes and I have been teaching for 18 years and have taught Kindergarten through to Year 6. As a relieving Assistant Principal for many of those years I have a wealth of experience in teaching literacy and numeracy and leading teams of teachers. Professional learning is a great way for teachers to develop deep understandings about evidence based best practices and I have delivered professional learning to colleagues at team, whole school and state levels. I have a strong passion for student engagement and for differentiating to cater to the various needs of learners. I also encourage a love of Mathematics and for vocabulary development to improve reading and writing development. When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughters, reading, building Lego, seeing live shows and cooking. I will be joining the wonderful Warragamba staff 4 days a week. If you see me on the playground, be sure to stop and say hello because I do love to have a chat.

Kindergarten News

Welcome back everyone back to the 2023 school year.

This year we have 64 brand new Kindergarten students that we have welcomed to Warragamba Public School. They have settled in beautifully to the structures and routines of big school and we are loving eating lunch and playing with our buddies in the playground! We are all so very proud of the amazing job they are doing!

We have now started mathematics, cutting, and sticking, reading lots of books, art, and of course some play in all our classrooms. We are all having so much fun!

Take a look at our big smiles and hard work!

Just a few messages for our Kindergarten parents – don’t forget to label everything! We are still getting the hang of the idea of putting belongings back in our bags.

Kindergarten students begin full time school from 9am -3pm this Friday 10th February. From Friday afternoon Kindergarten children can be picked up from the big tree gate on Weir Road. The teachers will show you this gate on Friday morning.

Looking forward to a fantastic year, watching your children grow, gain in confidence, and do amazing things!

Stage 1 News

Stage 1 have had a fantastic start to 2023! Stage 1 teachers have created many 'getting to know you' activities in our new classrooms to help our little people form friendships with their classmates. These activities also help the teachers get to know all of their students' vastly different and wonderful little personalities.

Maths Groups also started this week and we are full steam ahead. Everyday after lunch our Stage 1 students participate in a range of maths activities that are targeted to their ability, with their Maths Group teacher.

We are so proud of our Stage One students as they have all settled into their new classes seamlessly. We look forward to meeting you all and sharing more of Stage One, during our Meet the Teacher session.
