FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK - Amanda Bird

Hi all,

I am delighted to let you know that I have been fortunate in winning the Principal position at Bracknell Primary School.  For me, this is a fantastic opportunity to work in a school that values and respects learning and together we can continue to aspire to be our best.

We are opening our second Art Gallery for the year today and have an excellent selection of artworks on display, even Our Little Possums have created a beautiful abstract weaving.  Please come down to the office to see our finished piece, along with our other artworks on display.

The Arts are an integral part of our teaching and learning program and playing and learning through the Arts has many benefits for children.

1.       The Arts develop children’s motor skills – these are essential for many activities including, writing letters and words and for dexterity and control.

2.       The Arts help children to appreciate numeracy – Art is not only about emotion, colour or aesthetics, but also about patterns and problem-solving.

3.       Music, in particular, can accelerate brain development – singing has a tremendous benefit for reading skills.

4.       The Arts can help to reduce stress.

5.       The Arts build children’s self-esteem by allowing them to express themselves.

6.       The Arts build the creative side of the brain.

Learning through play, music and art create multi-dimensional individuals who are creative and innovative.

Please have a restful and enjoyable holiday over the next two weeks.  Monday 22 July is a  Professional Learning Day for teachers and students start on Tuesday 23 July.

Kind regards,

Amanda Bird
